Disappointing, could have done a job as RB backup. Leaves us with Moreno, Clyne, Injured Flanagan, terminally injured Enrique and new boy Gomez. Should have kept Wisdom and sold Enrique, who is toast these days. Unless Balotelli is going to give fullback a go.
Enrique has one year left on his deal and a long injury list. I would say if he can find a club he will be lucky... but..... if he can prove some fitness for us maybe he can get a club .... Wisdom is only slightly disappointing to me. I've watched him since he arrived and was head and shoulders above any other defender we've had in the time but.... there is something in his attitude somewhere that's putting clubs off. Maybe.... Gomez walked in and was very very impressive. More impressive than Wisdom at the same age.
Gomez has come in and looked impressive against 3rd rate opposition. Gomez looks very talented but I don't want him to be the back up left back. Right back, maybe. Wisdom, along with Kelly have had their careers hampered by being asked to play at full back for too long IMO. Kelly was never built to run up and down flanks as his body broke down.
Yep, he's gone - at Marseille now. Not sure why but it's a stupid decision. A natural RB who can actually defend and wouldn't have cost much to keep or even to buy. Buy out clause was around £2m which we could have easily made back down the line if not more.
We didn't need to worry about signing him - we already had him. And I rather we spent £12m on a CB or DM than Clyne, given we had Manquillo. Being a back up is one thing, but being a young player who can develop from back up to starter is another. Investing in youth is crucial.
I was referring to the £2m clause you referred to (#itk) Want good enough so the position needed improving. Same goes for LB
The release clause was quoted by local journalists both in England and Spain, so hardly ITK. He was good enough though - arguably one of our best out and out defenders, and he wasn't bad on the ball, and had a lot of pace. For a player we already had, didn't see the reason for getting rid of him. Sooner get rid of the Flanno. #itk
Being the best of a bad bunch doesn't make you good. Is that why you rate Mario? Flanno being injured excluded him from the bunch
Good point - we're hardly blessed in that department. But I'd sooner get rid of the sh*t ones first before looking to get rid of the 'best of a bad bunch'.
