Absolutely mate. I've just said the same thing on the mags board. An English forward, mid 20's and moreorless guarantees you at least 15 goals a season. Players like him don't come along very often and to see clubs seemingly trying to penny pinch over him is incredible. Especially when you consider the Sky money and extra millions he will give by improving your league position. Newcastle will eventually take him and I'll be gutted. He should be our man with Defoe and Lens off him.
Absolutely agree. Our big **** up was not signing him when Di Canio wanted him, we'd have saved a packet and likely be stronger all round now. The lad has taken every step up in his stride without even a blink, he's just a goalscorer, a proper always there kinda player. He, Lens and Defoe would be a cracking front 3, even if it would mean pushing Defoe wide.
So why are we not making any real effort to sign the lad?! 15m is a bargain and if the mags or anyone else signed him i'd be gutted aswell as pissed off. Maybe its his wage demands but we need to make a move now before it's too late...
Might be a case that the lad, probably rightly, feels it's time to step up to a big club. Problem he has is none of them are looking, and a season in the Championship won't help him. A club like us, the Mags, Stoke. Probably ideal for him for a year or 2.
Clubs could be a wage thing. What's to say these clubs aren't running around offering insane wages to beat teams to these targets?
Then not to put too fine a point on it, we need to compete mate. Have Stoke, Swansea or Watford got more income than us? Have they ****. Looks like they have more ambition though, and that again will attract players.
Then there's a chance out targets are already Identified and Dick has certain people in mind for his system. I agree with you to a point fella we do need to complete but not for anybody who improves us on paper. There's hundreds of players that could improve us that will move this window all over the world, we're not going to go for all of them, we have to trust there's a plan in place. If we were trying for everyone in sight I'd be worried at the lack of tactical plan. MoN thought anyone who'd improve us on paper would do and when we got them in our team had no identity and MoN didn't know what to do with the squad. I'm not in panic yet mate, I trust if we don't move for a certain player than it's for a reason.
I get all of that Bri, 100%, but Afellay looks a perfect fit to me, just that one in particular has me scratching my head a bit.
I know mate, we often miss players we think are perfect. Blind faith is all we have init. Afellay was free so I can only suggest he'll be on an inflated wage. Reckon it could be one area Ellis will dig his heels over, wage bumping free transfers.
