Was he ****. Willie McBride won the VC in WW1, he was from Belfast. So did private McFadzean, he was from Belfast too. They both fought in the Ulster 36th division which was the forerunner of the UVF.
Why has this not been a problem to so many other players from Northern Ireland? Gerry Armstrong Norman Whiteside George Best Jimmy Nichol Pat Jennings, ( who Ive actually met - nice man - big hands)
Like George Best gave a **** about national anthems mate, he'd have put a Liverpool top on and sung Flower of Scotland for a can of Kestrel.
OK Bill I will stand corrected without research. Read mine in a book some time ago, maybe he was the first catholic to win it then. Either way he was on a loser as the catholics did not much care for him as he fought for king and country, and the protestants would not give him the time of day. Sums NI up just about. PS: Ireland was partitioned until 1920 so NI as such did not exist in WW1, so we are both right, in a way. 15 all.
In my opinion, Mclean's biggest problem is that he is as thick as bulls lugs and hasn't got the social skills for the big stage that football has given him..His best option is to keep his trap shut and just get on with playing football.
...lol Seriously though the LAD'S got talent but the thick sh it hasn't realised that you never stop learning & he's yet to make it no matter what his mates back in Ireland tell him so if he wants a football career he should pull his head in, shut his gob, train hard & start using those two eyes & ears he's got.
To right. Imagine if he learnt how to kick with it.......I just can't understand how so many players that can't kick with both get to have contracts!
