allen is bang average... but when theres not much pressure he looks decent passing it about.

put pressure on him and he gets blown off the park.

Spearing is a juorneyman pro. you will not see him in the prem unless a team gets promoted and then you'll see him sold anyway... he's just not up to it.

allen can go a job in the prem... spearing cannot.. really simple.

which is why saying flanagan is avergae is no insult. he can actually do a job.

I think he is/will put the effort in. For him, like Kelly, injuries have stalled him.

    Kinda like Arbeloa.

My problem with Allen is we have players like Henderson, Milner and Can who can do what Allen does plus more so I struggle to see what he offers.

arbeloa was a bit better than allen in fairness... a solid player in a defence... but CMs need to do more admittedly

for em sure... when the chips are down a good side will power him off the ball so thats why i htink he is average but there yuo go he shuffles the ball about and puts i nthe yards

Agreed. I think put him with those and the midfield is too similar.

Put him with others who can also press but offer different attributes and it becomes a balanced midfield.

Thats why you have to find midfielders who all offer different things

  7. Steve Finnen too. Most consistent player and best crosser with his wrong peg I've seen.

I like Allen - I think he's a good squad option. Issues are clearly injuries and that it takes him time to get back up to speed.

But he's like the rest of our midfielders - not a specialist. He's a jack of all trades. Put him alongside someone with top class quality and he'll be useful - but if not, don't expect him to drive the team or produce match winning moments.

allen has to work hard and does need to be fully fit or he gets exposed. for sure.

you've just described exactly what i call average. others have to make the difference and he fill in around them. dont ask for inspiration here.

This is the problem with most of our team. Too many workhorses.

Can people please stop ignoring the fact that Allen will be world class now that he has a beard?

Growing a beard doesn't make you better at football... It just makes you worse at cunnilingus.

Yeah but its really simple 4/5 top top players can carry a couple work horses.

With respect to say ivanovic..... let's face it he's not the quickest. He can beat a man but he's solid as a brick wall and good in the air. He's prob on that mythical first names on the team list thing.

City have a couple like that too.

If Joe Allen were 6 inches taller he'd be solid too. He's just to small and light weight when the pressure comes on so he's got to work harder than everyone to get there ergo.... you can't always out work everyone.
