R's back in pre-season friendly action against Newport County on Sunday ...
    • QPR will continue their pre-season campaign against Newport County on Sunday
    • Fixture will take place at Rodney Parade - kick-off 14.00pm
    • WATCH: The game will be streamed live for QPR PlayerHD subscribers
QPR play their penultimate pre-season friendly on Sunday lunchtime, with a clash against Newport County.

Chris Ramsey is expected to take a strong First Team squad to Rodney Parade, including new signing Tjaronn Chery.

Chery took part in training with the R's earlier this week following his recent move from Groningen and the Dutchman could be in line to make his Rangers bow against Terry Butcher's side.

However, injuries are again likely to prevent Yun Suk-Young, Armand Traore, Karl Henry and Leroy Fer from being involved.

Newport, who finished ninth in League Two last season in their second full season back in the Football League following their promotion from the Conference via the Play-Off Final in 2012/13, are in the midst of a huge summer of transformation.

Fifteen players departed in the summer, as new boss Butcher opted to rebuild his squad in the wake of a cut to the playing budget.

Only five senior players from last season remain, with 10 new signings.

R’s boss Ramsey is looking forward to the trip to Wales, commenting: “It's another opportunity for us to take a step up the pre-season ladder.

"We'll rotate the squad about a bit, giving others the opportunity to get match minutes under their belt.

"We need to refine a few things from the Dundee United match. There are things we've been working on since that game that I'll be looking for improvements in.”

He added: “I think Chery is ready to play some part.

"He's looked lively in training and I'm sure the fans are looking forward to seeing him in action as much as we are.”

NEWPORT County boss Terry Butcher is fully confident he’ll have a tough selection dilemma in every position ahead of County’s trip to Cambridge United on August 8.
The Argus can reveal that Butcher is so keen to ensure he picks up no further injuries before the big kick-off, that the Exiles have now dropped plans to stage a final pre-season friendly next weekend.
Butcher has had upwards of TEN players unable to train or feature in pre-season clashes so far this term, with a standing room only situation greeting new physio Gary Aldridge on his arrival to County’s medical department.
    .
“We may have players missing on Sunday, but we’ve been aiming for having everyone available for August 8, then it has been a good pre-season. And we are bang on course for that.
    ADVERTISING
“If we are only without Andrew Hughes on the first day of the season I will consider that to have been a successful pre-season.
“We at one point were working extremely hard to arrange a friendly for next weekend, but I think we are probably better off not filling that now.
“We have a fantastic game to prepare for and a good trip to Weston on Tuesday, so that’s what we are focusing on.”
The Exiles welcome a full-strength Queens Park Rangers side on Sunday at Rodney Parade, a contest Butcher believes will benefit his side hugely as the likes of England internationals Rob Green and Charlie Austin strut their stuff on Parade.
“We are really looking forward to facing QPR, it’s a great game for us, it really is,” Butcher said.
“We are picking up the pieces injury-wise, but you can tell the players are excited about this game, they are talking about it a lot.
“You want to play in this game, its players who played in the Premier League last season, so it’s a mouth-watering contest for us.
“Our players have a big desire to play and we’ll look to give everyone who is fit some minutes, because they will want to play against Queens Park Rangers.”
And Butcher is looking forward to his return to Rodney Parade, having only attended the final game of last season as a spectator and seeing it on Thursday when Newport took their team photo.
“I saw it at the end of last season and haven’t seen it since but the pitch is looking magnificent it really is,” he said. “Although it is looking far too good for rugby!
“I’m joking there, before I get any complaints, but any sportsperson would love to play on this pitch.

“I’ve seen both sides of it, as we have our training base at Spytty Park. I think Spytty Park was an important home for this club, but Rodney Parade is brilliant, it’s great. It’s lovely being at the heart of the city.
“And the staff have done a fantastic job with the pitch. The pitch is superb.”

Thanks 999's for the write up.
Thought I might get some practice in on the score as well.

I noticed Charlton put a good shift in over the weekend so we need to keep pressing on.

Charlie Austin misses out with a minor groin problem, whilst Leroy Fer, Yun Suk-Young, Armand Traore & Karl Henry are also unavailable with injuries.

Forgot this was happening but in the total absence of other sport to watch I think I'll tune in.

Possibly Hoilett's last ever match for us. We can dream anyway.

The quarter finals of the greatest field sport in the World are on now at 2pm. You might be able to get 'em on Sky

Is there a stream for this Newport game? I'm guessing not

Only if you can stop being a tight git and pay the £4 a month for QPR player.

No Irish sports on here today but we do have F1, women's Ashes and the Senior Open on later so one out of three ain't bad.

Lennell John-Lewis now at Newport. His name is a shop, as they say.
