It's not the thought of Jose with Yoshi or Jose with Stephens that's scary, its the thought of Yoshi and Stephens if Jose gets injured. Yoshie and Gardos was bad enough
We really need two cbs now. That would allow us to blood Stephens, McCarthy, Turnbull whenever we wanted instead of being back up. That would take the pressure of them as well.
Particularly if we're going to have to wait until late August for van Dijk. No disrespect intended toward those youngsters, but having Fonte/Yoshida pick up an injury and forcing one of them (or worse, IMO, Martina) into the starting lineup for European qualifiers and the opening games of the PL is a long way from ideal.
Is this the kind of thing the club would budget for or keep in reserve or is this likely to effect budgets massively?
Yes and no. It won't be budgeted in the accounts but they know this can happen. It just means they have to go into the red...... box . *i don't even bother with a Coat these days*
Les said that they'd sign extra players if the right deal was out there. All this does is forces the club to move with more intent rather than just browsing. No problem.
We haven't spent the money we have acquired from the sales of Clyny and Snidders so purchase budget shouldn't be an issue and wage budget shouldn't be an issue either with them, Osvaldo and the loaners all off the books. Two good quality CB won't be a problem surely?
Yeah and we don't need two permanently, one could be a loan for the season just fine. If they see future in Gardos, no point in bring in an extra body on an expensive contract when we also have three young CBs looking for spots this/next year.
Unless like others have said we can get a better back up player then Gardos. As a example say we get Van Dijk and Kogolo/ Van Beek. That would be a big upgrade.
Let's be honest, none of us have seen enough yet to come to either conclusion. The coaches will know far better than any of us. He has time, but this injury and long layoff sure hurts him. Sure, like Read said, they're not going to panic or buy for the sake of it just to make up numbers. If there's a good deal on a player who would improve the overall squad they'll go for him.
I wonder if it was the VO2 tests that found out the extent of the damage, which required immediate attention?
