Finally. After buying at least half the books several years ago, I am on Page 5 of Book 1 in Patrick O'Brien's famous Aubrey-Maturin seafaring series. This one is Master and Commander, of course. And after it there will only be 20 more to read.

Incidentally, The Far Side of the World , the subtitle in the excellent Peter Hyams film of 2003, is Book 10.

Ugh, things like that genuinely disgust me and i wish there was more enforcement harsher penalties for scum like that...like kneecapping.

Whats worse is that the dog will get some of the ire from this. Staffys can be the most loving and caring dogs on the planet if raised correctly.

Yeah i know. I wasn't trying to assert that they were unique in that sense, but owning a staffy (profile pic) you wouldn't believe how many odd faces or weird questions and even some hostility i get from people when they find out what kind of dog i own. Its a preconception that's very regrettable and morons like the one in that news story feed into it.

I've got nothing against pranks on a stag do, but you've got to keep it fairly sensible. What on earth was he thinking? You can't **** around with airport security and expect to get away with it. In the States, you would be facing a lengthy prison sentence. And rightly so.

My wife's family had a Staff when we were dating and it was the most affectionate, wacky, gentle, easy-going dog you could ever meet. Mind you, the local Doberman was terrified of her! <laugh>

That sounds familiar <laugh>. My one spends most of his time tripping on the stairs, crawling under blankets to protect himself from the vicious 15C degrees or running scared from the cat which seems to thoroughly enjoy placing itself in doorways he wants to get through.

Back in November I got attacked by a staffy for merely walking past it. dragged me to the ground and I couldn't get away. Fortunately it was tied to a pole otherwise I would have been in deep trouble. Still I have a great scar now and apparently chicks dig scars, so maybe it was worth it. I don't really blame the dog but all I'm saying is never take any dog for granted, no matter how nice they may seem, they are still animals and that's from a dog lover. I probably startled it as I walked round the corner, as I didn't see it until it was too late.

Absolutely mate. Despite liking to think hes harmless I'm aware he is an animal and can act on impulse/instinct or because he perceived some non existant threat.

I always take every possible precaution when hes in public or meeting new people and cant stand it when people are careless or think they know better.

Last two days in Tokyo and a chance encounter in a bar has lead to a job offer! Pretty unbelievable, got tapped to redesign curriculum in early years for a struggling school here. Would have been wonderful to do but wrestling with the decision now. Already signed a new two year contract and I'm a big believer in korporate karma. Salary cut and out of the classroom for a year but great for the CV and much better lifestyle.

Wife is desperate for me to take it, think I'm going to say no though...

Oh and Japan is SUPER RAD!

It was postponed, but it might happen on Sunday as Portsmouth are playing a friendly, so I need to message her. I wouldn't normally go to friendlies (waste of time imo, I only ever go if they're close and/or a stadium I haven't been to before). Tbh, unless she's willing to relinquish some control, it seems pointless continuing.

Edit: Though I did post something yesterday and she didn't delete it! Hallelujah!

There you go. Don't always predict the worst or you'll make it happen.
