I'm all for calculators being used in tests (that arn't directly teaching basic arithmatic). I think it's silly not to use a calculator (unless you're testing add/subtract/multiply/divide)
I agree, but it doesn't help you really understand mathematics, what's going on, or even just getting a concept of it. It's just pressing buttons to get an answer.
i agree. calculators should be banned at least unitl 13/14 kids should be taught how to carry the one and do the maths and the method is whats tested. thats the whole point of asking the same question 5 different ways to test understanding
Just imagine if they started to bring this type of counting into schools. Its pretty neat alternative to the way we would be used to.
Notice how all his examples start with 1,2 or 3 though. If you did 77×88 with that method it would be a headache counting the intersections and drawing the lines. As long as there are no digits greater than 4 or 5 it is a pretty cool looking trick. (not that it isn't quicker to calculate the traditional way)
Fluoride (All 43 human studies finding associations between fluoride and reduced IQ) and Common Core, wtf are they doing to kids? It's literally enough reason to up sticks and move elsewhere. One might think this dumbing down is intentional
i used to get a bollocking off my maths teacher as i didn't show my workings out lol, did it in my head, he said to me great you can do that but an examiner will mark you down for it the **** suppose i have all this weird fecking way of doing things to come then as mine are only 5 and 8.
Yes I agree. It's a neat little visual though and actually quite fun to show children other ways of working with numbers.
Ain't that the truth Lad You're close, mindless drones for the corporate world, a world without social reform.
I got one of those for the kids They don't start till 7 here so essentially they are home schooled till then though the creches do educate them but it's more social activity and coordination, writing practice and most importantly no pressure on 4 and 5 year olds like back home. #thesearethedays
The UK and Ireland suffer different problems with education imo. That whole league table for schools is a disaster. All the best colleges are the best, why, they only admit the best students, that's the only reason they are the best. #cherrypicking
add iphones and ear pieces to this mix and we are one step form the matrix. if you go on a public transport you'll see the worker drones plugged into their isolation boxes shuffling off then work and never talking to each other. Ideal oligarchical society has nearly been created. if the generations coming up enough free broadband and geordie shore to watch and they'll be your drones. I am in a place of work where when i got to canteen i now see about 20% using free guest wifi or their own signal to wathc tv at lunch with head phones in Or the older ones reading a book. they are all isolating themselves away form anyone else.. make no mates at work types. then of course there prob another 20% sitting at thier desk eating.. again isolated from rest of staff. no networking going on there...
