i was 99.9% sure I was going to buy the away kit but now I think I will use the money for a fred perry barrel bag
I will never ever get a tattoo my body has enough scars, I don't want to ruin it even more than it already is.
I'll look daft with a Fred Perry barrel bag, so I think I'll tick to looking daft in green with blue sash Anyone know the release date?
Just been down to SMS to look at the new kit, although it shouldn't surprise me-the cost is ridiculous. Wanted to buy a GK shirt for my 6 year old and the price really is abhorrent. £45 for a GK shirt for his age. As if that's not ridiculous enough, the price of a short and shirt for my 9 year old is £40...?!?!? Although I know the price is dictated by Adidas, to pay nearly £120 for my 3 children's shirts is disgusting. I know it's my choice and it's not something I do regularly-I haven't bought them shirts for 3 years. I know I shouldn't be surprised-sadly I am.... A so called family club should do more to encourage the next generation of fans.
I agree with all of what you said apart from your last line. You said yourself that Adidas dictate the price mainly and then still have a little dig at the club and I think a little unfairly. It is a lot of money (I purchased two shirts plus a whole youth kit), however the club need to generate commercial income. People were only moaning last week that we're not spending enough money on players. We can't have it all ways.
The little dig was because I'm sure the club do have some kind of say. Last year, we would've made more money on kits due to making them ourselves, but I'm sure at some point in negotiations, Adidas would have mentioned the exorbitant price they were going to charge the punters. Back when England win the RWC, I paid out £70 for one of the shirts.... Although the £70 was at the time very expensive-at least it was a good quality shirt, these days the shirts are largely made of recycled plastic. For what it's worth, I'd rather keep the next generation of fans as well as current fans a little bit more on side by charging realistic money for shirts than taking money hand over fist.
Fair enough. I'm not digging at you. I do think the club are in a tough spot. We really need to grow financially on all fronts to help drive the club forward on the pitch and compete with the likes of Spurs and Liverpool on a regular basis. I understand your sentiment, I really do; I took a big gulp before pressing "Checkout" when ordering ours. I agree that the quality of the shirts is very poor. The way we will really keep the next generation of fans on side will be with success on the pitch too. The last 5 years have shown that. It's catch 22 for us all as for that success, investment is needed and money generation from commercial activities. We are currently a long way behind on commercial income and to get big value shirt sponsors, etc, we need the success on the pitch. The circle is vicious.
Agree with all you've said, I know you weren't having a go, don't worry...! It is a tough call, but I'd just like the club to be public about stuff like this. If they turned round at some point and acknowledged the situation and listened to the fans a bit on things like this. Have massive respect for what Swansea have announced for away fans recently.... A great example of keeping fans on side in an awkward situation. I doubt Adidas were the only option for kit, it would be a shame if they were chosen purely as the company who gave us most reddies. It's slightly off topic, but it's for things like this I miss the Solent fans forums.
To be fair to the club, at the end of last season they conducted a fans survey. From what I can gather most fans concerns were about the cost of tickets and as a result season ticket prices for this year were frozen (some even reduced). So for this year at least they have listened to the fans views, it's just that most people thought the cost of tickets to be more important. Admittedly, they could have looked at all costs but it is a step in the right direction.
Ticket prices are the most important issue for fans wanting to attend the matches....kit is optional. Kids aren't put off by the price because they don't pay for it. However, it is very wrong if the quality is poor.
Agreed, the ticket prices are important, but for those who can't easily attend the games the shirt may be the only option of showing support. The shirt quality is pretty ropey from what I've seen and the design seems solely down to the additional obligations Adidas have towards the other clubs they sponsor who wear red and white than they do to our club.
If you are going on holiday via Gatwick I have heard the JD Sport there stocks the Saints kit at a small discount £50 -> £43.
I never buy new kits. I have my 2008/09 kit, and I haven't bought any since up until last year, and that's only because last season's home shirt was such a nice gesture and way of commemorating those who lost their lives in the First World War. Had it been a standard kit, I would not in a million years have bought it.
A mate has just received his home and away QPR shirts for this season - He'd decided to have the great Stan Bowles' name on the back of one, imagine his surprise when he pulled out the shirt to find BOWELS emblazoned on there. It made me laugh anyway
