United perhaps. Can't see him going to America or the Middle East before Portugal. He's a multi-millionaire as it is and it wouldn't do anything for his ego to win the Qatari league.
As this table clearly shows, there is a definite correlation between net spend and some degree of success. The usual suspects are all at the top of the table. All are top 4 sides - except, to be fair, Brenda has outspent you and achieved, **** all http://www.transferleague.co.uk/pre...tables/premier-league-table-last-five-seasons
It is when those are his priorities in total! Wages have an even greater correlation. Can you guess who the top five spenders on wages are? It's not even close, by the way.
No, of course not. Wait... Just checked again and it is them, actually. Shocking, eh? The latest figures available are for the 13/14 season. The top six were Utd, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs. The league table was City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and Spurs. Other than United doing horribly and Everton finishing above a team with more than triple their wage bill, it was pretty much what you'd expect.
Might be worth pointing out that the current Watford owners have sacked exactly one manager since they took over the club and that one, Billy McKinley, hadn't even signed a contract. Zola and Sannino both resigned, Garcia also resigned after health problems and Jokanovic reached the end of his contract and a new one was not agreed. Best to take what is written in the press with a pinch of salt. I suppose I better include Dyche, they did sack him when they first arrived too...
What do you think of your chances? I'm considering including you to stay up in some sort of pre-season acca with Notts County to go up and one or two other things
Think we have a better chance than many are giving us but it all depends on how the new signings will gel and whether two of our three main strikers make the step up. So far we have strengthened sensibly especially in comparison to Norwich and Bournemouth but still plenty of time. If nothing else club and supporters are both going into it with a different more positive attitude in comparison to the two previous brief forays where it was very much 'lets have some fun and see what happens'.
The bet I ended up doing which will almost certainly fall apart by September: Everton bottom half finish 15/8 Hull bottom half finish 10/3 Bury top six 10/3 Notts County promotion 7/2
Yeah. I didn't do huge stakes but did the accumulator and the four trebles possible in those four. The one most likely to let me down I think is Hull. My theory is that Allam will get restless and sell a few key players and Bruce could walk but their squad as it is should be top six easily.
What year did Arsenal last finish outside of the top 4 ? That's when you need to take the net spend from.
You've got no definition for how a club would buy their way into the top 4, but Arsenal definitely didn't do it and aren't doing it now?
Arsenal spent relatively little (net) until a few years ago. I don't think it's fair to say they bought their way in as they tend to be more profitable than other clubs but undoubtedly they've had to spend a lot of money to stop themselves from going backwards which is fair enough as United, City and Chelsea are all capable of buying just about any player in the world. Spurs and Liverpool have had the resources to overtake them or at least push them a lot harder than has been the case.
Nope. Certainly not in Spurs' case, anyway. Arsenal were outspending us every year by massive amounts on wages alone, which is how you attract top players. It's a myth that the media push, along with their gross spending figures. The Spurs wage bill with the last available figures was closer to QPR's than Arsenal's, for example. They spent about £100m more than Everton.
You've obviously had to up your spending over the last 5 yrs due to the emergence of Man City. It's pretty clear to me that the top clubs in terms of net spend, and in terms of their wage bills, are the top four in the premiership. That's clearly no coincidence!
