Seriously <yikes>. Football is a business, the club cannot afford to do that currently. So unless you expect Ashley to invest another 20 million every season then where do you expect the money comes from. Yes Ashley has made numerous mistakes. But the fact is he has bankrolled the club from the day he took over, and as a business man he wants to get some of his money back. If he had continued in the way Shepherd did then we probably would have went bust before Pompey.

Give it 5 years and you'll see

And by the way you're talking to a group of fans who know about overpaying in football. Look what it did to us

The thing that annoys me most about this article and the many others like it that have been generated in the last two weeks is this; if at some stage over the next six weeks we sign a decent striker and a decent AM everyone will be as happy as they were a month or so ago when we had made four good signings. The willingness to panic or to become fickle at the drop of a hat is really pissing me off.

We have done more in the market already than almost all the other clubs in the premier league, we are still obviously very actively looking for the players that we need and we have failed to get a number of players due to circumstances beyond our control. The final point we still have six weeks to go!

How many times do we have to go down this road, save the panic attacks until the last week of August!

Can people just calm THE **** down? There's still LOADS of days left until the transfer window shuts down and already people(some) are getting upset or annoyed. Seriously! Relax, enjoy & chill. I'm sure we'll get that 2nd striker we all want to compete with Ba & I'm sure we'll get a couple of Tiote-esque players(In Carr we TRUST). <ok>

    *Breath baby*. Ah yeah.

Its okay, you are obviously happy with what Ashley is doing to the club now and have accepted it, so i'll leave you to enjoy mediocrity and ill leave Super Shola to bash my mild dysorthographia dyslexia, cheers chaps.

    Obviously.

It wasn't just overpaying, it was buying average foreign players under average managers.

Dalglish is more Robson than Keegan.

I was just aout to bring Stoke up .. a good example of a team that has solidified over several years before stepping up their game and going for better quality, higher earning players .. with no disrespect to Stoke, NUFC are considered a much bigger club and could make this transition from relegated/Championship side to established EPL side fighting for high placement and good cup runs faster .. but not in one season .. me personally, I'm happy with the progress so far and I'm not manic about this £35Million .. looking forward to more signings to come and the new season .. <ok>

No, but my point is he is nowhere near the class of Sir Bobby IMO. Although I don't doubt that he is a legend to you lot like Sir Bobby is to us <ok>

You seem to forget Dogleash managed us too. Took a brilliant squad that nearly won the prem and totally destroyed it. Good luck to you if you actually rate him. Also good luck with meeting the fifa fairplay regulations with your current spending.

I look forward to the day when the Bin Dippers finish in a european qualifying place but are denied entry because they have overspent and cannot balance the books.

Completely agree. When we came up everybody mentioned how it's going to take us a few seasons just to get back to being a solid Premiership side. After finishing 12th people now think we should be challenging straight away. Also this £35m isn't just for the Summer transfers, it's not football manager! What would happen if we spent all this £35m like people want then in January we lose four or five players to injury?

Possiby, we may be saving the Carroll money for when the Financial Fair Play rule kicks in next season. That way, we'd be head and shoulders above the likes of City and Liverpool, and we'd be able to buy players cheaper than usual. Sounds a little like Ashley?

Agreed, he made a fair few stinking signings, but I don't think his heart was ever in the job if I'm honest. It reminds me a lot of his time at Blackburn even though he won the league, he would've jumped ship to Liverpool straight away as he says in his book.

We have the biggest sponsorship deal in terms of kit makers with Warrior and we also have one of the biggest sponsorship deals with Standard chartered. You are underestimating how big Liverpool actually are.

    An example here:
