I may well be wrong mate but not that I'm aware of.
I don't see the poppy appeal as political, it's a charity that helps the families of those who are injured or died in conflict.
    Originally the Lord Haig fund.
The poppy is a symbol of those that died in France in WW1, it means a lot to me.

I'd wish they'd be respectful and just get on with it regardless of what it represents, or the needless inclution of it's presents in football.

I always buy a poppy fella, even if I don't wear it. Sometimes I don't, but that's my choice. It sounds daft but I don't like all this **** in footy all it does is give the opportunity for ****ers like McClean to use the game for his own political ends. I respect McClean's right not to wear one. Just sick of this detracting from the game.

I don't even like a minute's silences or applause. Sometimes an applause is inappropriate and a silence can never be done justice with so many back on the concourse drinking and people still entering the ground. What's wrong with showing respect as an individual on your own terms in a way an individual feels fit? Or a specially organised for purpose memorial for the cause in question?

Honestly. I'd do the away with the lot of it. You pay to come in, you take your place, the teams come out and just get on with it. If they want a poppy on their top they can personally request one.

And if thats not grammatically correct, then who gives a ****e?

Good enough for a World Cup Winner but not some immature pseudo-political ingrate of a twat.......

Couldn't agree more. There are far too many sanctimonious silences during football matches these days. If this keeps going, it'll end up like American footie - punctuated every 5 minutes by another minutes silence rather adverts. I'm not belittling remembering the dead/good causes, but it would be nice to forget about the world for a couple of hours on a Saturday, and start tuning back in (or not) as of 4:45.

Exactly, we're human beings with our own mind, I can spare a thought on my terms when I see fit and football isn't the place to do it for me.

Kirk Broadfoot has been handed a staggering 10-game ban for a sectarian tirade against James McClean.

The Rotherham and former Scotland defender will have to serve what is believed to be the longest ban for verbal abuse in English football history.

The ex-Glasgow Rangers player launched the attack against the Wigan and Republic of Ireland winger at the New York Stadium on March 14.

It is understood he received the record ban after being called to an FA tribunal with club officials to face charges relating to sectarianism.

Earlier this week, Rotherham and the FA refused to comment on the matter because of a strict confidentiality agreement that prohibits anyone connected to the case with making any comment about it.

It is believed that was put in place over fears of a risk to the parties involved if details were revealed.

The ban beats the eight-game punishment given to Liverpool striker Luis Suarez after he racially abused Manchester United defender Patrice Evra in 2011.
Broadfoot was born into a Protestant family in Ayrshire and is known to be a staunch supporters of certain cultural traditions relating to his religion.

McClean, a Catholic who signed for West Brom this summer, has been in the news over his refusal to wear a shirt with a poppy symbol in it, turning his back on the Union Flag prior to a game and refusing to sing the British national anthem before kick-off at a game for his new club during their pre-season tour in America.

I'd knock you down in my car.

Does your momma still live up the Falls?

Just a piece of historical interest. Mick McGinnes was a catholic in the RN during the war and received a VC. On his return the people of Belfast raised funds to give him as a reward for his bravery. The city council refused to award him the Freedom of the city as they believed that a working class man from west Belfast did not deserve such an honour.

Served his nation, awarded the highest bravery honour (the only NI man to do so) but the protestants would not join the party. Doubtless they pout on there medals and orange banners and doffed their daft bowler hats to the war memorial but did not have the dignity to acknowledge true bravery.
