    Last season Liverpool were unable to protect a lead, and we saw many smaller clubs
    doing it including Aston Villa.

    For me, if you go one goal up, then you continue as you are - keep the same structure and shape.

    Then once you got 2 goals, you sit back a little and look to counter. But either way - you need to keep shape and structure, and remain defensively sound.

    Surely taking the lead shouldn't see you go more defensive, sit back or park the bus. A team should just look to take control. If you're in the lead them keep hold of the ball and don't take silly risks

    Good question but tbh United under Fergie rarely went out to get something from a losing position. Yes there have been iconic games where that's happened but over the last decade and longer it's not the norm for us.

    Typically (against the lesser teams) it was go all out attack first 20 mins, get a goal then drop down to 2nd gear. Then play the rest on a counter attack.

    If you have the players it's effective bcos in the long term, psychology you affect the opposition managers to change strategy and sit back and rarely trouble your goal.

    Correct, force the first, nick the second and leave them thinking that if they commit forward you will just score more.
