I'm not too bothered that journos haven't been invited. I think this tour is a bit lacklustre due to no big names going. Gerrard is a huge favourite out there, reports saying vast majority of fans still have his name on their shirts adds to my view that he brought a lot more to the club than what he did on the pitch. All those rushing him out the door maybe not taking that into account as to how we are now viewed in those areas where he's always been a big draw. Shirt sales may plummet as broader fan appeal switches elsewhere.

Addressing mito's point - Reds fan Panachit Kittipanya-ngam who runs the popular Thai website lovelfcdot.com explains low crowds -

“I do think the lack of star names is a big part of it,” he told the ECHO.
“With Suarez going and now Stevie, we have lost some ‘magnets’ to bring the people in. “In our online community we try to carry the message that we love Liverpool for the club – it’s not about individual players or the manager. But people love to see the top players. “If Coutinho was here you would have seen bigger crowds because he’s very famous.”

On a side note, nice to see Luis Garcia out there as an ambassador for the club.

I agree... we have been VERY poor in our promotion of a new star since january. Coutinho should have been pushed the moment he signed a new deal. we've done faff all with firmino.. not even announcing his shirt number till today.

The club has prob said... oh **** the tour is ****ed ermmmm... well how can we sell shirts.. oh firmino has not number DOH!

the time really as jimmy says was last summer to get a star and he'd be driving this tour now.

The club should also have filled the website with milner and firmino and even clyne to soem extent but right now it looks like we rocked up very sloppily.

The lesson is with 49mil in your back pocket to by a star and push the **** out of him and coutinho and firmino and hope they back it on the pitch

20 goals out of benteke and 15 out of coutinho or whatever and they will be big names.

Sorry if this isn't exactly on topic but a bit more from that Thai fan who runs the fan website, explains a lot -

The 36-year-old has been supporting Liverpool for a quarter of a century but admits younger Thais are gravitating towards Manchester City and Chelsea.
“I was 10 when my dad bought a video which taught you how to play football. That video had Kevin Keegan, Ray Clemence and Alan Hansen in it,” he recalled.
“I was like ‘these guys are cool’. I liked Ray Clemence a lot. When I found out they were Liverpool players I fell in love with the club.
“Liverpool and Manchester United are still the biggest two clubs here.
“We speak to the United supporter clubs in our online community and between us we think we have 60% to 70% of football fans in Thailand. Liverpool has around a 30% share of that.
“I see more Man City and Chelsea fans in Thailand among the younger people now.
“The older fans stay loyal to Liverpool but success in terms of trophies would get the club more fans among the younger generation.”

Panachit, who lives in Bangkok, says the timing of the game also dented the attendance as well as the fact it was arranged at short notice.
Liverpool had initially intended to visit Macau in China but that fell through and the game against the Thai All Stars was only confirmed a month ago.
“Not many people noticed that Liverpool were coming to Bangkok,” he said.
“Two years ago we knew Liverpool were coming since February so everyone had a lot of time to plan their trip, not only from other parts of Thailand but from other parts of Asia. This time it was quite rushed.
But what made it difficult for a lot of fans was playing it in midweek.
“Two years ago many fans came from other provinces to watch as the game was on a Sunday.
“With this one being on a Tuesday people would have had to take two days off work and that’s very difficult to manage here.
“There were less fans at the game but I still see a lot of people loving Liverpool. It’s a special club and people feel that. We are the best family in the world

    only stands to reason.

if the club messed this up in timing and information it only has itself to blame i guess.

there really was zero reason to play the first game on a tuesday and no reason why we started a week alter than normal either 1st july was usually the kick off. If we'd started say the wednesday prior to when we did and flown 3 dyas ealrier and played sunday we would have done metter.

it sees we didn't push it well tiehr and jsut threw a game in to have one..... doesn't sound too good.

I've got an idea- why don't we put the most negative spin we can come up with on every new development at the club or any aspect of news relating to it?

Thinking about it, I might just be a bit late with this suggestion.

Do you get the feeling the club's just doing it to do it without any real enthusiasm. Hurry it up, get back home to sort out the new lads, the season, the Sterling aftermath. Losing wider focus along the way to get to the narrow day to day business?

Everton are currently playing Stoke in a half empty stadium in Singapore. Liverpool played in a half empty stadium in Thailand. What's the point in travelling all that way to play pre-season friendlies if the locals aren't interested?

So what's the point in travelling all that way to play a pre-season match if it's scheduled at a time that's inconvenient for the few locals who are interested in watching the likes of Milner, Markovich and Origi?

I like to be positive and as I said a while ago, we're on a journey, it's better in my view to go on it in a positive way rather than a negative way, the outcome will be whatever it will be regardless but I'd rather enjoy the journey the best I can than be miserable on it - self fulfilling prophesies and all that. I even said on one occasion to create a positive comments only matchday thread to run alongside the main one in the hope that the karma from it will be reflected in the result <laugh>

Having said all that, there are times when you have to say what's really on your mind and for me that's recently been the seemingly low targets in O'Driscoll [Macca I'm ok with for ...funnily enough, his huge positivity and motivation] and '2nd tier' striker names being linked. We need to go all out for a big name and throw whatever money at it that it takes. This 'think potential' strategy is alright on paper and while I agree we need to build for the future, at this point in time we need a big boost and for me that's a big name, well respected, well known signing for us. Firmino was very close to that <ok>

It's not that they haven't been invited. The papers didn't think the expense was warranted.
