Sorry just moved house and been offline. Can you pls clarify distinction between 3 mafia options.
my concern about options 2 and 3 is that the tole of Don depends on a definite regular poster fif the team to stand a chance - which by default makes certain players prime suspects.

in some ways a true team of 3 makes it harder for town to find them out too easily and it's less about pure luck of of one player choosing to do the wrong thing on the wrong night. BUT if the extra Fon powers make that worthwhile then it could be an interesting twist.
 
Yes option one is simply 3 guys as a team. How the shootouts work then changes.

The other two are different.

The improved don role is about more powers and more protection.

The godfather will be a known bad guy causing in game chaos and will be hard to kill.

He will be able to have lots of fun
 
The known don sounds like more fun I reckon so I voted for that, but having not played before I don't know what will play better.
 
TBF averaging 2 messages per month is a bit low for mafia

I've been lurking for ages though, just rarely comment. Commented more in the last few days than the entire time beforehand! Still, two comments per month would probably fit in with the way some of you play this game :)

My take on it (from earlier post), for what it's worth:

Just a tweak for the Don will be fine.
Normally I would say make him invisible to investigations but if hitman gets killed early they're screwed, and if thief dies no more bullets, so I think that's the biggest risk. I think the Don could be made invisible to investigations while he has no additional powers (except for his recruitment power), and once he acquires powers his invisibility to investigations disappears.

Once a mafia member dies the recruit or Don can take over their role but at 50% efficiency (for both thief and hitman roles, but if hitman misses he doesn't waste a bullet). If a second member dies the Don can take over that role too with the same limitations, however the recruit can only have one role so he is whoever he chose that first time someone died (same as the last game).
Example:
Mafia team at start: Don, Hitman, Thief.
Don recruits: Don, Hitman, Thief, Recruit (no powers).
Thief gets killed: Don, Hitman, Recruit (Thief powers at 50%). (makes no sense for Don to take Thief powers as he would lose investigative invisibility)
Recruit gets killed: Don (Thief powers at 50%), Hitman . (Don is now visible to investigations)
Hitman dies: Don (Hitman powers at 50%, Thief powers at 50%). (Don can choose to be a hitman OR a thief each night, can't do both).

In the previous example when it was just the Don & the Hitman, if the Don was killed next then the Hitman would be Hitman only as he can't become the thief. Only the recruit can take on another role (one time only when first mafia dies, same as the last game), or the Don can (multiple times, whenever a mafia role dies).
 
My view, though not that strong yet is that if the other roles mess up its thier fault.

for instance had valley survived a coin toss... lets leave the joshing aside... then he'd have earned another bullet for the hitman.

the hitman got to kill twice didn't he so he was out of bullets in last game. he prob could have fired a thrid time.

So there has to be some element of skill in this game too?

The recruit earning the power of whoever was killed as good.

ok so i guess here is my thing:

1. I am of the view any mafia team with a recruit power should use that power asap. I always say that be it is very very rarely done as people hang on to it either as they don't see the value over other actions OR they want to wait form some role to reveal all. a 4 man team is stronger than a 3 man team.

2. the don in the last game stated he felt like it was the only thing he could do so why not go do it. (gerrez) otherwise i'm not sure he would have.

3. the core issue was once one mafia went the others went too. access all areas occurred etc.

therefore my view is that we should look to strengthen the don role but not diminish the other two as the other two are "experts" The hitman role is also a vital one for zombie killing later in game too.

The don:

1. Balances the known cop. will appear innocent if investigated by the cop. an not sure if i should include the journalist in that.

2. Will be bullet proof. this mean he cannot be killed at night. ergo if the guy is attacked by the hunter he will resist. the hunter will then know he is mafia.

3. will not be back up to any role

4. can recruit one player. recruitment will occur before investigations so should not actually be seen happening.

Tweek to recruited mafia:

1. eliminate 50% effectiveness.... thoughts?
