Enough fire power to get us out the Championship?? Mackie with all his heart is a fantastic signing for the club at this stage but with JET and the new German bloke I'm not so sure they'll cut the Mustard. JETS been at this level for a while now and last season found himself in Leauge 1 with no new contract on the table and only CR and LF in the queue for his signature. Polter let's be fair is a complete unknown having spent the majority of his time playing for the German under 21 and skimming around the Bundesliga... The last term we were in the Championship we signed Austin and he ultimately got us promoted. I just think we need a proven goalscorer at this level to show true ambition, as much as I applaud the new transfer policy.
I think there might be one more to come in (and the quality will be proportional to the Austin fee recouped). As it stands, it's a group that would share the scoring burden (I think) which isn't something we've had in recent years.
Don't forget we're due a slice of the Sterling fee. I cant see any other outcome than him eventually signing for City during this window.
Good point, I reckon Mackie at his best will get you 10 goals at this level and JET and Polter is anyone's guess. Someone like Martin from Derby or possibly Lambert???
Luongo and Gladwin will score goals from midfield. It's looking more balanced in terms of goal potential so far, Would be nice to have a 15 goal man in there, perhaps Polter will do this. Of course they all have to deliver. Welcome, by the way.
I'd argue that JET and Polter are the 'target man' types, Mackie is pure work rate and can open up space for others. With that in mind, I don't think we need a Martin or a Lambert. Only thing missing is a forward with pace and finishing ability, Dwight Gayle was mentioned on another thread who fits the bill.
Mackie 10 Polter and JET combined 15 Meaning we still need another 15 goals from our strikers. Someone guaranteeing that will cost big bucks. Lambert would most likely provide that at a minimum outlay, though his wages could be quite high. Martin will definitely give you at least 15 goals but he'll cost between £5-10 million. I'd like us to get Glenn Murray if obtainable for a reasonable fee. Can't see Palace letting him go though. There is a reason why they offer the likes of Campbell, time to be smart as a club me thinks. No more wasters!
Welcome to our forum 'HoopsintheBush.' As it stands the options up front are, Austin, Polter, JET, Mackie, Gladwin and Grego-Cox. The options up front looks the best we've had for quite a few years. It would be a dream team if we kept Austin, but as that looks unlikely we'll need to replace him unless CR thinks Polter can fill his boots. What I like about our forwards is that they appear to be all-rounders. They can pick the ball up deep, run the channels and have an eye for goal. Whether they can all do that at this level remains to be seen.
Thinking about "How many goals?" It varies every year, but ... In a 46 game season you need to be looking to score about 60 goals to put you in the top ten. (Of course it also depends on how many you concede!) Last year's champions, Bournemouth, scored 98. (Forest scored 71 and finished 10th). In 2010/11 we scored 71 and finished as champions. Adel scored 19, Helguson 13, Mackie 9, Tommy Smith 6, Routledge 5. three players scored 3, three scored 2 and three scored 1. (14 different scorers) 2013/14 we scored 60 and finished 4th. Last year 60 would have just got you in the top ten. Charlie scored 17 in 2013/14 then Morrison 6, Hoilett 4, Zamora 4, four players scored 3, five scored 2 and seven scored 1. (20 different scorers)
...unless he is signed by us, when he will miraculously become a seasoned pro with a canny head on his shoulders who possesses the guile to win free kicks & penalties... it's all in the perspective
Valid points, but the table isn't based on goals scored. You could win 31 games 1-0, to get 93 points and only score 31 goals. Points are what matter, not the number of goals (albeit, if you score more you're likely to win more).

Tyler Blackwood?[/QUOTE] Yep, we've just signed Blackwood. Quick and keen. I quite like the balance of the squad in midfield and up front. We just need to sort the defence now!
