Hey, what's this Root thing? Sh*t, we used to smoke that stuff. Peace and f**king lurv ma-a-a-a-a-n
These two (Root & Stokes) could really take the game away from the Aussies. Stokes just hit Lyon for a massive six.
Looks like a poor wicket in all honesty. Probably going to be a draw. Ball is still swinging though so our best chance is Jimmy rattling through them tomorrow.
Just seeing score for the first time and not too upset tbh. If we can get to 400 that should rule out losing and we can then get stuck into them tomorrow! Hopefully the bowlers can make the Aussies realise they've got a bloody tough series coming up.
That's some prediction on day 1 with 7 wickets down! I think Australia will probably come in and bat us out of the game, we look like falling short on what we should be getting. It's a class batting track.
Didn't we post more than 400 runs last time in Cardiff and then needed a Monty last stand to pinch a draw?
A class batting track would have more pace and not be showing signs of variable bounce before the end of day one. I certainly wouldn't fancy batting last on that and whilst they have a couple of real quality players (Clarke, Smith) there are definite weaknesses in that Australian batting line up. If we hadn't lost Buttler just before the close of play I'd say we were ahead, as it is the first session tomorrow will be important with a new ball and fresh bowlers. Ideally we need another 75 runs from the last three wickets to start feeling comfortable
I'm still pretty comfortable with 400, first wicket. 380-390 is as close is, so lets see how the first session goes tomorrow. Still optimistic, @Safc83
I did say that while Root and Stokes were in then we lost a few wickets near the end of the day. "Judge the track after both teams have batted on it". Can't remember who said it but wise words nonetheless
