Do you not want to see a bit of excitement during the game Swords? A QPR player who isn't afraid to take on a player and get the fans off their seats? That player isn't Matt 'First Time Cross...every single time' Phillips
I wasn't complaining that he doesn't dribble. I was stating that he DOESN'T repeatedly go passed players. Personally, I like my wingers to be ABLE to take on players AND deliver early crosses. That way our play does not become predictable.
Swords I think Phillips must have shagged Elino and Escape Goats missus or something. They’ve clearly made their mind up about him and are trying to convince themselves (let alone anyone else) of what they are saying Escape goat is now even unhappy about him not creating the right type of assists. After old puppet face decided he wanted to play 2-5-2 then froze him out, knocked his confidence and wrote him off. He got back in the side and created the most assists in the prem in 2015. Assists in case Escape goat didn’t realise mean creating goals and I don’t know about you swordsy but goals tend to get me out of my seat. But hey that isn’t enough for some. Even though if they delude themselves that a player whose main attribute is pace doesn’t use running with the ball as part of his play. Also it is difficult for football illiterates to understand hat a first time cross is extremely difficult for defenders to deal with. Hence the impressive assist numbers. They’ve made their minds up and that is that so they wont understand:
Oh Peter, Peter, Peter. Didn't Swords get banned for bringing up people's missus? Never mind. Once again, you continue to pipe up. 'They' - for a start, I haven't said that I do not rate Phillips as a player. I have only ever said that I don't think he is worth £10mil. Secondly, again, I have not stated that there is anything wrong with crossing the ball first time, in fact I simply debated (with sufficient evidence) that that is all he does as another poster stated he repeatedly takes on players. Yes, he did have an impressive number of assists in the second half of the season. I don't know why you've involved me in the comments Escape Goat is saying. For the record, again, I think he is a good player. But he is not worth £10mil.
My hard disc has lots of pictures of Phillips nutmeging and leaving defenders behind. Maybe most of the goals came from his early crosses which he also did very well. For me he is both very good at getting past defenders and crossing right side only. Not so good at scoring with some notable exceptions, and not so good on the defensive side but not as bad as for example Col says. Wasn't good at all left side where, typically,Harry used him if at all. Main point is what he is good at, creating great chances from the right side, he is very good at, his stats confim that, so if the Club is demanding 10 for him it sounds right. No pay, then hope he stays for me.
That's a reasonable post Elnino. I don't think you'll get a winger both able to regularly beat fullbacks AND put in good crosses at our level or even lower to mid Prem. If a player can do both on a regular basis he's going to one of the Super Clubs I'm afraid
That's very true, wingers are the most infuriating of beasts, play great for a year and then run up blind alleys for the rest of their careers.
This is all very interesting. I just want to know: 1 Is he going? 2 How much are we getting for him? 3 Am I the only person who is getting fed up with being told that anyone we sign has been bought for an 'undisclosed fee' which is leaked to be one figure, say £6mill only to be then told that apparently we paid £10 mill and didn't even check whether he was eligible to play in this country.
Phillips often goes round players but it can hardly be a criticism of his abilities as a winger that he's by far the best crosser of a ball at the club. When Austin is in the box it makes a lot of sense to get it in there as early as possible. Phillips' crosses for goals suggest he's good at his role. Rare of me to agree with Swords.
He doesn’t only cross the ball first time and he doesnt repeatedly take on players. What obviously happens is he does both of those things. Only a complete idiot would thing it is one or the other. As for his value again would point you to Hammersmith Junior’s post at maybe- we don’t want to sell him and so have inflated the price… penny will drop in the end
Oh Damage mate, you've just killed yourself there. You take yourself a bit too seriously don't you? Never mind, when Phillips leaves the thread will be rendered meaningless....much like your opinion most of the time.
Well Peter. First you call me thick, then you mention my missus, and now I'm a complete idiot. Good job I don't take this seriously otherwise I'd feel offended. Luckily, I hold coaching qualifications and play at a decent level; so I value my thoughts more than yours.
Well if we are getting into a my dad's bigger than your dad contest. I also have a coaching qualifications, have coached in the States and played at a good level as well. Most vital point of course is intelligence. Mark Warburton is a better manager than Ravel Morison will ever be. Outside yourself and escape goat. I'm not sure anyone else could list any valid points you've raised Also as for the being offended. You've made negative and offensive assumptions about me as an individual so don't get too high and mighty
This forum is getting too much like Eastenders for my liking... please log in to view this image It's going to be a long summer!
