Good for him. Travelling the world, playing football, and getting paid for it aswell! Not a bad life really.
He should have been brilliant Folan, but as he admits, his heart wasn't in it. He was having months out at a time with unexplained 'leg' injuries and when he did play he was scared of defenders and the ball. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hernandez admit in a future interview that his 'heart wasn't in it' in England.
I remember one of his first games (It could have been his first?) Blackpool away - he got absolutely pole axed.
Agreed - I thought he was going to be decent. He was a bit of a super sub in our promotion to the PL.
Was speaking to some of my Blackpool supporting work mates who were at the match at half time by text (I was with the City fans) and they were really impressed with Folan and were expecting a pasting. He looked like he would do to them what Trevor Sinclair did to us a few years earlier at another match there, but the head injury put paid to that.
He waa brilliant that year. He could either be a target man for Campbell or could run in behind if he played with Windass. They were a great trio of strikers and a big reason we went up. Whenever one was out the other two were just as good.
I remember Folan used to cause a fair bit of debate on the old 606 site, a lot of people thought he was a 6 foot fairy, it was probably just he was scared too much of being injured and didn't commit to tackles or headers as much as he should have because of it
We need to replicate that with 3 decent incoming strikers. Our track record since then in the goal scoring quarters has been poor.
Folan was a player that never seemed to look like he knew what he was going to do with the ball. So if he didn't know - what hope did the opposition have! I liked him as a player for the cost. He was an excellent impact player.
