As do I, was a huge fan of Benny, our best LB in the Prem era by a mile. Hope his St Etienne career is successful.

Rumours are we're talking to Mario Suarez from Athletico. He's 28 and is a decent DM from the bits and pieces of La Liga I watch

    Levy doing a double deal?

Good player and likable person and our best left back for some time.

A very good full back and a fascinating character. Said out loud what most other players only think. Love the fact that he drove around in such a daft car, must have been hysterical seeing it parked alongside Ferraris, Porcshes, etc. Capable of some heartstopping moments, but played very well with Bale and was fun to watch.

It'll be interesting to see if he can get back to form after having such a long time out. Hope he's stayed fit.
Saint-Etienne finished 5th in Ligue 1 last season, so you know who we'll be facing in the Europa League at some point...

Best of luck to Beni in everything. He was an excellent player who was also a lot of fun. He decided it would be amusing to see how many different ways he could dispossess Liverpool players during an exhibition in 30 degrees or so in Baltimore, and really made my day. He never seems to need reminding that sport is a part of the entertainment industry.

"Oh, the smart car is not well today. Who pick me up?"

I seem to remember it was benny who was keeping bale out of the team in redknapp's early days although harry always knew bale would make it as a forward and not a left back...

Good luck benny, best left back we've had in ages

Reports in Spain are saying we've brought in José Lozano to scout U18 and U21 players in Spain and Portugal...although the timing doesn't look good, given Ceballos and Lameiras were both released by the club two days ago.

As I'm on the subject, reports in Finland suggest Teemu Tainio is heading up our Scandinavian scouting operations.

Twitter gossip claims Capoue to Watford is done for £6.4m.

ITKs also saying Stambouli will follow him

What do you guys think of Capoue? I know he didn't get much game time for you, is that because he wasn't good enough or just didn't get a chance?

Under AVB: immense for his early games until he got injured, noticibly less immense when deployed as a makeshift centre back
Under Sherwood: played a couple of games as a makeshift centre back, then vanished completely while Sherwood said there's no point in defensive midfielders
Under Poch: immense for the first couple of games, got injured, then vanished from the first team after a game with Stoke alongside Kaboul, Adebayor and Lennon

Capoue is a talented player with an attitude problem, to judge from what I’ve seen and read. Sort out the attitude, and he could be an excellent player for you. The two brief runs he had as a starter for us he was looking like a classy DM and piling up some great stats--until the end of his second stint, when he looked like he couldn’t be arsed. He also has a bad injury record, which may go hand in hand with his attitude problem. Both he and Paulinho may have joined Sandro as deep lying players who got hurt for us in the very recent past and didn’t come back the same player. Conversely, maybe the injury problem was the result of a bad attitude, rather than its cause.

Cheers guys, by the sounds of it we are taking a bit of a gamble on him, hopefully it pays off!

Yeah, but at least it’s one with a big upside. He was our best player the first few games of last year, I thought. For your sake I hope he realizes he needs a big year.

Yup, that's what the Pozzo's do. Deeney, Vydra, Gomes, Töszer... doesn't work every time of course.

Capoue can cover a lot of ground when he wants to but he switches off and can be lazy, not tracking his runner, which is pretty awful for a defensive midfielder. He's talented but seems to have an attitude problem, the midfield Ade.

Good luck getting more out of him than we did, although that shouldn't be hard.

Media are reporting we've accepted £10m from Watford for Capoue and Stambouli.

We paid £9m for Capoue and (if I recall correctly) £4m for Stambouli.

I think that Capoue's a very good player.
He's got all of the right physical attributes and he's comfortable on the ball.

Both of his runs in our first team have been scuppered by injury.
He then ****ed himself with Pochettino by expecting to walk back into the side.
He doesn’t give a **** about pecking orders.
Force your way back in or **** off.

Our youth system has benefited from this approach.
It does seem to alienate some senior players, though.

  20. Capoue frustrated me immensely. At times, brilliant; but, all too often, absolutely dire.

I don't know if it's an attitude problem or that he simply cannot cut it at the very top. The margins at which these guys play, in today's game, means that the very top professionals have to have consistency, which, in itself, is a talent. I believe that Capoue, like so many players we've seen - Adebayor, Lamela, Paulhino, Taraabt, to name but a few - lacks the kind of consistency that can justify him playing in the Prem for a team like Spurs.
