...their youth academy's. Hull FC and Hull KR will announce plans today to merge the youth systems of the two clubs from 2016(via RH). I assume that means that City, FC and KR will all have their youth academy's at Bishop Burton.
Details now confirmed, could this possibly be the first step towards the two clubs merging? Hull FC and Hull KR to merge academies Hull FC and Hull KR will merge their respective academies to form a new Hull rugby league academy from next season. The ground-breaking initiative will come into place from the start of next season, with the new team playing out of Bishop Burton College, the current home to Hull FC's academy and the Hull City academy. The move, which has been on the table for the past three years and almost came into being 12 months ago, is sure to derive criticism from some fans, but both clubs have today stressed the importance of the combined team moving forward. No official name for the new team has been reached as yet, but the clubs have agreed to play in a yellow and blue kit, colours long associated with the livery of the city of Hull. The new Academy will be joint funded by FC and KR, with a single team playing in the RFL's under-19s and under-16s competition. The setting up of 'Super Academies' is an initiative heavily pushed by the RFL, with the new Hull academy set to be the first of several established Super Academies across the country in coming years. The respective clubs are currently still in negotiations with regard to the coaching structure of the new academy, with a head coach and assistants to be confirmed. It is not known at this stage who will oversee the academy at Bishop Burton College. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull...tory-26820439-detail/story.html#ixzz3ej80sBca
The clubs announced some time back that they would merge the academies to save on resources, and that the players who emerged as potential professionals would have a choice of the senior club. There's more chance of us becoming Allam Marine Tigers and playing in pink than the two RL clubs merging. Don't forget when the Super League stuff was first put forward and there was a lot of money on the table for them to merge and the Dulls needed it, they weren't interested then and I would guess even less so now.
It's not logical at all Happy. They have very separate identities and proud histories. They wouldn't merge even if they were both relegated from the Super League.
They should definiteley merge, create one average team rather than two sh1te ones. They should consider switching codes too as RL is moribund
Would you agree to us merging with Grimsby and Scunny and calling ourselves Humber United would you call that logical and sensible ????
We play in a sport awash with money, there's absolutely no need for us to merge with anyone. Rugby League is a sport with no money and as a consequence, pretty much all the clubs are permanently suffering from financial difficulties. And they're both in Hull, so your analogy makes even less sense. It's absolutely logical and sensible for them to merge, but obviously there's little chance of it happening as the two sets of fans hate each other.
Tried to watch a bit of the Rugby League on Sky but just can't get into it, I guess I would be a plastic Eggchaser if they did merge as I think I would follow the new team
They should call the merged team the Gateshead Gladiators or Hull Hunters, or a short name which Allam would like, like Hull East & West Egg Chasing Cooperation Alliance
How is it? A merged team would bring in the same revenue from TV rights and sponsorship. They'd probably bring in less money from ticket sales and merchandise, so they'd actually be worse off than Hull or Rovers are now.
It would obviously only improve their fortunes if both sets of fans followed the new club, which is why why I said there was little chance of it happening.
They are representing Kingston Upon Hull and moving to BB. People who move about are rovers. So Kingston Rovers would be a good name.
