15 mins in and England currently employing a long ball strategy against Japan. Such a shame as there are some really nice touches too. Every break from defence has bypassed midfield and been pumped up to Taylor. Where have we seen that before?

Half time 1-1 (both penalties). Ironically having played the most attractive footy, Japan's penalty came about via a long ball from their half that put England's defence under pressure.

That was a bit like losing on penalties, possibly a little worse.

Cracking goal though. Tough way to go out. 2nd half was a lot more positive, perhaps as players tire, it made more space. Japan looked like they were trying to play the right way throughout and bodes well for their teams in the future. I spoke to a senior coach in Aus last week who said the Aussies training curriculum from grassroots up to senior levels is now following Japan, Spain and Belgium's models in an attempt to create better individual players and teams. No mention of England's methods.

And looking at it on BBC Breakfast, I'd say that the original foul was just outside the box!!!!!

It was just outside, but you can't blame the ref in that situation, especially when after 3 repays I was still not 100%. In fairness England's penalty was soft at best too. Tough way to go out, but isn't that the England way?

Yes HQMC - I wouldn't argue with you on either count and for that deflection to go in ......... it must have been so devastating for the players and the fans.

Beat Germany 1-0 In third place play off, with an extra time penalty. Delicious irony.

Yanks cruise to a 5-2 victory.

    Overall a good tournament IMO.

As others have said, cannot compare to Mens football,
but never the less I enjoyed it.

Agree. Both were the result of dreadful goalkeeping and both would have been stopped by a village club GK 99 times out of a hundred. Only differences were that the Alonso lob had enough power not to bounce before it crossed the line and nobody suggested that Alonso's goal was considered goal of the tournament.

Well it's all over,so after doing my best to instill a bit pride
for our Girls and the Tournament in general,I have finally
seen the light and admit that it was all s**t and a waste
of time.Women should stay where they belong in the
Kitchen and never ever encroach into Mens space.

Is this really the 21srt century <doh>

It's simple really, if you don't like it, don't watch it! I will just say this though, if the men's team showed as much enthusiasm and dedication as the ladies did, we would win a lot more tournaments! FACT

?? Dont think anybody was saying that, but surely you don't condone positive discrimination to make an event more than it is?
