3:00 Thirsk - Euxton 3/1. Looks quite a poor race and not one I'd usually bet in, but Euxton looks worth a bet at a generous 3/1 against this lot. She's taking on a lot of older horses, none of which are world beaters and Euxton looks to be the only one with any real chance of improvement. 4:30 Thirsk - Greeb 2/1. Good comeback run earlier in the month, should be up to taking this sort of race now with that run under his belt. He is giving away a fair bit of weight to the rest but I think he could still be much better than the rest. Charlie Hills has his horses running a lot better now as well, so I'll take a positive from that.
This is a day that comes round too quickly. Last two years it has been Lingfield and Kempton offering up the delight of 2 two-mile flat handicaps for the stayers to get stuck into. This year the BHA have surpassed themselves by having 3 two-mile handicaps at Thirsk, Bath and Kempton: trainers with slow staying horses must be wetting themselves. Just like Jihadi brides, you are waiting for one and three turn up on the same day.
Aficionado 11/4 Worcester 3:50 - has run here the last two times being beaten into 2nd twice by a nose and a head. Got collared by Champion Court last time out but the pair had pulled a bit clear of the rest and from the same mark in a lesser looking field hopefully he can get a much deserved win today.
The reason for me asking is a colleague is going today and he uttered the dreaded words, you know your horses don't you so can you pick me one in each race. Oh the pressure. Anyway my darts landed on: Back to Bond Dylan Alexander Spowarticus Signorina Roseina Rayadour Fendale Coppull Moor Vecheka I personally will be backing Dylan Alexander - seems to be improving for every run and she ran a cracker at Chester from a bad draw last time out, would expect her to be too good at this level Signorina Roseina (nap) - Beat Bondi Beach Babe 2 starts ago off 52, Bondi Beach Babe has since won off a 9lb higher mark and is now rated 13lb higher than when defeated by the selection. Raised 4lb for that run Signorina Roseina ran a good race LTO on ground that was probably to soft finishing 4th. The 3rd has come out and won since off the same mark so I expect back on a quick surface Signorina Roseina can win again off her current perch Spowarticus - if he can translate his aw form to turf he has a cracking chance
Morning, pilgrims. Depending on what front page headline you look at, right now, today is either the hottest day, in this EU member state, for 9 or 10 years. As they say round my way, ‘Phew...what a scorcher!’ Does anyone know the actual amount of money that is placed on these ‘next manager’ markets??? Is it huge sums or are they just produced for bookie P.R. in order to get there names in all the stories about who the ‘new’ chap could be??? I don’t know the answer incidentally just very curious. On Oddschecker and the couple of bookie websites I’ve just looked at the next Leicester boss market is being promoted way, way, way in advance of any racing.
Very heavily backed LTO as well and i agree it's ready to win off this mark in a significantly weaker race. I also like his runner in the first race.
I think the next manager markets are quite popular but are known to be very volatile, favourites change on a daily, or sometimes even hourly basis. Will no doubt be a good earner for the bookies as punters are going on pure guess work, unless you have the old "inside info" then there's absolutely nothing to base your bets on, other than what you read in the media, but who wants to trust the media??
2pm Thirsk: Back to Bond 5/1 Kept on well over 5f in a class 3 race LTO, finishing 2-and-a-half lengths behind the winner. This looks easier; step up in trip sure to suit and Hanagan booked. (doesn’t have another ride until 4.30pm) All the best.
I have to agree about Aficionado. I was at Worcester last Sunday when he was beaten by Champion Court. The horse idled that day when he hit the front and Dr Newland did not look too impressed. Off the same mark, and assuming Will Kennedy plays him as late as possible, I think compensation awaits today.
I like the look of SEEK THE FAIR LAND too (Kempton 6.15). Pearl Noir should ensure that there's a good pace set in this race and this will suit this one. Back off a mark he has won off the last twice, he looks good e/w value at 8/1.
Fairyhouse 7.25-Staccato Wolf runs for Pat Martin and i've been told they think he is well handicapped and has decent Ew claims. He runs off bottom weight with a 5lb claimer on board.Although he ran fifth at Gowran last month the yard has been on a nice little run of late so I've backed him Ew at 8s. Exotic Gun Shoot is a non runner now but should run a big un next time
Far too hot for a top table scoff so I settled for a cool corner to read 'The Weekender; while chomping on a chicken salad baguette and a packet of hula hoops. All washed down with 2 buckets of water - iced, not from the tap.
I say SBC, what is old boy Charlton up to, giving Time Test an entry in the Great Voltigeur Stakes? Is he thinking St Leger rather than Arc?
