I don't mind Simpson, in the time he has been with the club he has improved massively and I think he will get better as well. But I would take this kid like definitely. Having someone snapping away at Simpson can only be good for him.

Simpson needs competition, he's a good player and is getting better but I can't really see him becoming top class...

Na, if he was ever going to be top class, man u would of kept him. But he should improve enough to be a decent enough right back for the level we are currently at.

Simpson is a decent enough RB and I have no problem in him playing there next season. As others have said, Clyne is a very good prospect, won't cost a lot and will have low wages so we can't lose. I don't buy the Tavernier arguement, we need more than one potentially good RB - if Tavernier turns out not to be good enough then we're not left with any other young RB prospects.

Tavenier's progress would be the worry for me. Really rate the lad on what I've seen and his defending is excellent. Looks very calm and his distribution was good too. Simpson is much maligned and I do have concerns about his distribution. He is a decent defender but offers little going forward and looks a bit agricultural at times. R Taylor has lost the plot for me and might aswell be moved on once we get some cover for Jose (notice I'm still clinging on to the hope he'll stay even though I know he's leaving with an hour to go of the transfer window). I still expect this N Taylor deal to go through. However this Clyne has been talked up for a while in football circles and if he is as good as they say he is then I'd like to see him on board. Tavenier could go out on loan and get more experience. He's do a cracking job somewhere.

I disagree there mate, I reckon Simmo is decent getting forward and has a good cross in him. He overlaps with JB quite well too, his biggest setback is his closing down of the opposition, he just stands off for far too long. His overall defencive game is poor imo, even at the most basic level. Still like the lad though, hopefully he'll learn from last season.

We'll have to agree to disagree. He can't pass for me, which is strange for someone who spent that long at Man U. Very difficult to build attacks down that side because of his limited passing ability. it's probably why most of our attacks come down the other side with the silky skills of Jonas/Jose. On the right we've just relied on graft and crossing from Barton. I think one of the reasons works so well on the right is they know Simpson is a weak link technically and Joey can protect him a little because of his work rate.

I see him as an A Griffin type. The dog you set on someone you don't like for being good. Problem is he does have tendency to stand off sometimes. He is very up and down defensively for me but I could see him getting a bit better as he's still young. Very good on the cover as he's fairly quick, and when he's on it I'd imagine him being not very nice to play against.

As I say we clearly see different things in him.

Looks a real talent, playing regular championship football at his age is impressive, especially since he won Palace's player of the year award.

Tavernier seems waaaaay too light to be a rightback, he plays like a wingback but we can't really change our formation for him. I see him as the right-handed ferguson (just not quite as good), play him on the wing for his pace and use in defence only in an emergency.

I really hope this deal goes through.

Tavenier put a fair bit of muscle on towards the back end of last year, he's still growing up too. Look at Kyle Walker. Skinny the season before last, rocked up last year looking suitably built. They are still developing and Tavenier is defo seen by the club as a defensive player. Vast majority of appearances have been at CB or RB whether for juniors, reserves or first team.

Saying that there is nothing wrong with having Clyne aswell. Look at Spurs. They have Hutton, Walker, Naughton, Corluka.

Glad to hear that! At Gateshead he looked TINY but I suppose as you say, it's around about that time players bulk up. He's really tricksy and I rate him, just feared he'd be too lightweight.

There's no harm having depth in positions. Simpson, Clyne, Tavernier at RB, Enrique, Naylor, Ferguson at LB. <ok>

Loving the fact that like me, you're keeping the Enrique faith (even in the face of the obvious!)

Clyne can PLAY RB AND LB. Get him straight away!!! Very good prospect IMO. Naturally a RB so can give Simpson some stiff competition & cover Enrique(if he stays). <ok>

Very good deal if it goes through!

Has he got a good left foot though or does he just say he can play either side to look better/more versatile?

On FM11 it says ''Right foot very strong'' and ''Left foot fairly strong''. So I can imagine he can cover the left-hand side MUCH better than Perch. <ok>

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mp55DKy7Xw&feature=related Look at some of the comments there about Clyne.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathaniel_Clyne

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ant-Crystal-Palace-right-Nathaniel-Clyne.html

A very reliable source from our end says Leicester want Maynard & Clyne in the next week. He has sources at Leicester and knew about deals for St Ledger, Mills etc well before bids were made. He is never wrong.

Clyne is a quality young right back who can play left back. He is 19 and has made over 100 apps for Palace and played every minute of every game last season. He has a year left on his contract and a looks like he wont sign a new contract.

I would be very sad to see him go.

Just thought i would let you know.

Edit: Sorry for putting this is the wrong section.

I like the look of Clyne from what I have seen great potential can play RB and LB has been linked with Ajax aswell and like others have said competition for Simpson which he needs because most of his performances last season in my opinion were very poor at fault for most of our goals we conceded down our right letting players run into the box, showing them inside instead of out, not stopping crosses and positional play he needs to improve alot this season.
