So here we are. Just 3 weeks and 2 days before it all starts again against Blackpool. I thought I would get us in the mood with a little questionairre on peoples memories of day 1, preferably for games they attended, so here goes: 1) Last opening day game you missed (both home and away, expats change this to last game you attended) 2) Best first game 3) Worst first game 4) Opening day game which left you very optimistic for the season to come 5) And the one which made you the most pessimistic 6) Opening game which proved to be a false dawn 7) Opening game in which you were really excited after the debut of a new signing feel free to add any similar topics. My answers would read as follows: 1) vDarlington (h) 96/97 (on holiday) 2) got to be v Fulham (h) 08/09 for obvious reasons 3) vMansfield Town (a) 97/98 - After all the summer hype with the end of the Fish/Dolan era, and the beginning of the Hateley/Llyod regime, not to mention the 2,000+ city fans that invaded Field Mill, the performance and result were massive let downs. 4) v Darlington (h) 03/04 - The beginning of our ascent up the leagues, after a nervy first half we oozed class against Darlo. 5) Ironically enough this was v Plymouth (h), 07/08, the wembley promotion year. Having narrowly avoided the drop last time around, things didnt look much brighter after this match. 6) v Exeter City (a) 01/02 - Comfortable 3-1 win, 14 summer signings, new chairman, best manager in the league, and then it all fell apart in the new year. 7) I almost gave this to Stuart Elliott v Southend in 02/03, but he was just pipped by Geovanni after THAT goal and performance against Fulham.
1) Chelsea away 09/10 - I was on a watersports holiday in Spain and a few of us were packed into a tiny bar watching the game, all the locals were temporary City fans and they were heartbroken by Drogba's flukey winner the same as we were. 2) Fulham 08/09 3) Plymouth 07/08 - with what we had done over the summer I expected much better (it turned out we were much better eventually) 4) Darlington 03/04 5) I can't think of one that has made me feel pessimistic! 6) Swansea 10/11 7) Swansea 10/11 again. John Bostock
1) First premiership match ever for Hull city, v Fulham 2008 2) darlington 2003 3) plymouth at home 2007? 4) darlington 4-1 2003 5) chelsea 2009 - despite taking the lead and playing so well, we lost to a flukey goal, had major doubts from then 6) Exeter city 7) Geovanni This has made me realise my memory is shocking, everythings fuzzy
