Sunderland have made an £8m bid for Dynamo Kiev forward Jeremain Lens

The Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat has been given a £40m transfer kitty to rebuild his squad during the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old is known to have worked with Advocaat during their time at PSV Eindhoven, and The Mail cites that the Dutchman wants the talented forward to be at the centre of a revamped forward line.

Lens scored five goals in 16 games for the Ukrainian giants last season.

Keep seeing the relating articles referring to him as a CF or a Striker. He's a winger. Stats are very impresive from this season. In all competitions 37 apps, 9 goals, 12 assists from LW

@Gustavo's Gonads Have you seen him play much fella?

Is that £40m the number the random generator came up with for this reporter? There is no way that anyone except the people at the club know how much we've got as a kitty!

As a rule, its pointless speculating on any bids until the club announce it. That said, I'm liking the quality we seem to be targeting this summer. No more hit and hopes but more immediate impact signings. That's why Advocaat was wanted answhy I'm hoping at last Short will see a decent return on his investment this time.

I'm just hoping for a team with a bit of flair and a bit of pace going forward. We always seem to average around a goal a game meaning if the other team score we very rarely win.

I'm often sat watching the game and when we go a goal down think we all might as well go home cos I can't see us getting back into the game.

Just wondering if anyone knew when was the last time we won in the premiership after coming from a goal down?

I hope it didn't happen recently or I will look like a right twat but to my memory we didn't do it at all last season.

Chelsea away 2013/14 season is, to date, the only league game gus poyet has won as a manager after going a goal down!

No we didn't do it in the season just gone either! Worrying really but hopefully we'll see a different Sunderland side in the coming months

Cheers mate been racking my brains trying to think of that.
Cheers for that mate been racking my brains trying to think of it.

Actually I've just had a look through the last few seasons and the time before that we did it was Wigan away on January 2013. Considering how often we concede first to only come back and win twice in 3 seasons is pathetic and is a real cause for concern.

Depressing stat. The last time we came from a goal down to win at home was Blackburn In December 2011. Martin Oneills first game in charge.

Seen a fair bit when he was at PSV and he is a fast, dangerous & hugely confident dribbler, he'd be a smashing buy.

He's always had end product as well and can finish, you are absolutely right he is a winger, it would be a real step up in class.

Sounds good. My worry is it's just another agent using the Dick-Dutch connection to start putting his name around the premier league clubs.

I fancy this one might have legs, he's gone over there, won the league, made a bit wedge, but he was always linked with the PL previously.

I think that the top teams don't need him and therefore his way in is a good club and make an impression, having Dick absolutely is bringing in links with no legs purely as they are Dutch, but this one seems a bit widespread, and a very logical one.

I hope so anyway cos I'd love to see this lad pairing with PVA, insane pace and suddenly we aren't so 1D.

Sounds like a good buy GG.

My only worry about players with great/good reviews is that they get snaffled up by teams further up the table.

I'm just hoping that they'll be swayed by the thought of working with old eggnog. Thats one of the few things in our favour.

Having medical today. Could be confirmed today too.

Sunderland are closing in on a deal for Netherlands forward Jeremain Lens with the player set to undergo a medical on Monday, sources have told ESPN FC.

Last month, ESPN FC revealed that Sunderland had targeted the Dynamo Kiev player as manager Dick Advocaat looked to bolster his attacking options.

The Black Cats saw an initial offer for Lens rejected but returned with an improved bid of £9 million last week and the deal appears to have been agreed.

Lens, 27, has been given permission to travel to Wearside for talks at Sunderland's Stadium of Light.

Advocaat worked with the attacker when the pair were together at AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven.

Lens came through the ranks at Alkmaar before moving to Eindhoven in 2010 and scored 34 goals in 96 Eredivisie appearances. He joined Kiev in 2013.

If Sunderland seal the move, he will become their third signing of the summer after Sebastian Coates and Adam Matthews.
