Manager Chris Ramsey is desperately short of options following the release of Rio Ferdinand, Richard Dunne and Mauricio Isla (after a loan from Juventus), while Steven Caulker has attracted interest from Bournemouth and West Brom over a permanent transfer. Clint Hill is one of only three recognised experienced centre backs, including Caulker and Nedum Onouha, in the squad but he turns 37 in October. Llori has impressed on the way to helping Portugal reach the final of the European Under-21 Championships this summer. The 22-year-old joined Liverpool from Sporting Lisbon for £7m in 2013, but has yet to play for the club. That statistic is unlikely to improve next term so Rangers want to offer him the chance of first team football for a year in the Championship. Meanwhile, the players returned to pre-season training today as they begin to prepare for a campaign back in English football's second tier. The club's first friendly will be against Shakhtar Donetsk on July 11.
QPR reportedly head the queue to sign Liverpool's Tiago Ilori on loan Vincent Ralph @VincentRalph1 Published now Share 9 please log in to view this image please log in to view this image View image | gettyimages.com According to a report from the Mirror this weekend, Queens Park Rangers are interested in bringing Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori to Loftus Road on loan next season The Portuguese centre-back has yet to make his first-team debut for the Reds despite signing from Sporting Lisbon back in 2013. Since then he has spent time on loan at Granada and Bordeaux and it could be tough for him to break into Liverpool’s first-team next season given the presence of Mamadou Sakho, Dejan Lovren, Martin Skrtel, Kolo Toure and summer signing Joe Gomez. the Mirror [/a]claims QPR are heading the queue to sign the player in time for next season. The report goes on to claim that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers feels the player may be too much of a risk to feature regularly in the Premier League for now and that a spell in the Championship could be the making of him. QPR relied on an aged defence last season and it played its role in their relegation, so bringing in younger players is surely high on Chris Ramsey’s agenda. Ilori is a fine option, with great composure and the ability to play wonderful cross-field passes to set up attacks, and if QPR manage to bring him in from Liverpool it could be a wonderful move for all concerned.
Not a fan of loan deals. Loan players have no affinity with the club. Depends very much on the individual of course and their motivations.
Wouldn't say no. With Dunne and Rio going, Caulker probably joining them, that leaves us Onuoha, an aging Hill and Ehmer who has only appeared once for us. Ilori is also part of the Portugal team favoured to win the u21 Euro's.
Can say I know much about him but still a definite yes from me we're in real need of bolstering our defensive options.
Would be a great signing for us playing really well for Portugal U21. Most Liverpool fans I know rave about him, surprised he's not needed for the first team considering their defense
Loan deals for young players usually work better because the younger player has his whole career ahead of him and wants to make it. They usually work hard.
He'd probably do better at Liverpool if their defence wasn't so crap, to step into a suspect back three or four would put him under the cosh. Then again, the Championship is no place for the faint-hearted but might be a chance to make a name for himself...
Have I mentioned we need a CD. It is near to becoming a desperate need now....but we do need someone wh will play their heart out like Dunne, like Hill like Nielsen...
Player ratings for U21 final from the Guardian: Tiago Ilori, centre-back, Liverpool: the Hampstead-born centre-back spent last season on loan at Bordeaux, where he played alongside the Sweden striker Isaac Kiese Thelin. A thigh injury has hindered his tournament but he should be fit for the final. Has set his sights on pushing for a first-team place at Liverpool next season and is still eligible to play for either Portugal, England or Nigeria. Rating 7/10
