For 8 Million and we get Brett Pitman and some other no mark in return! Good deal? http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/27577/mings-agrees-terms-with-cherries Doesn't this show how far we as a club have sunk under Marcus Evans that even the likes of Bournemouth are now cherry picking our players! (no pun intended) I remember the days when we were taking the likes of Matty Holland from them!
Having voiced my concerns about selling Mings, I admit that £8m and two players is a fairly good return. Pitman has quite a good scoring record, just looking at his statistics. 95 games and 46 goals for Bournemouth, that's a healthy return, although it includes League One. He is 27 years old, so he's approaching his 'peak'. But does that imply we're looking to sell Murphy or McGoldrick? Four decent strikers in a squad is competitive and good to promote healthy rivalry and factor in injuries/suspensions. If Murphy goes then that's two of our best players (based on last season's performances) gone out of the door. Not heard of Ryan Fraser, who I understand we've signed on loan, but he seems to be a promising player with a few international honours for Scotland's youth sides. We do need a winger with a bit of pace, if we're playing 4-4-2.
Thanks Nuggets was looking for information on the deal and you have provided a comprehensive summary. I agree with you about the fee and getting in 2 players is not bad business.
Cheer up Warky, he was going to go somewhere at some stage soon and the 2 players might give our squad building a nice boost
£8M for Mings plus Pitman thrown in? That's got to be good business, he can be impressive going forward but hes a nightmare waiting to happen in defence.
I'm sure pre-Evans we sold the odd player to premier league teams...... Nearly 8m is an unbelievable return on a player signed for 10k and MM should take credit for that IMO....as I've said before as long as Mick is happy then I'm happy.
Good price for us and a good shot at regular PL game time for Tyrone. Do worry where our attacking threat is going to come from now. We really have to reinvest (some of) the cash well. Hoppers I think it is 752 now but not one has ever been seen
I can see your point and share your concerns re Murphy jonny but his age is against him as far as a Prem Club is concerned and whats more I trust Micks decisions where players are concerned because lets face it he hasn't done a lot wrong for us so far has he.
Murphy is not on his way out, we now have 4 1st team strikers at the club, that is probably about average isn't it.?
Well I have to say lads that's a cracking bit of business. I liken Mings to Titus Bramble, basically an accident waiting to happen. His mistake against us in the playoff semi cost you dear, not that you would have beaten us anyway of course
Incredible price for an average talent brilliant peice of business, sure Mr Evans will reduce his exposure to his dodgy investment Now just wait for your front players to get poached by QPR lol MIND THE GAP your words!!!!!
If we had kept him bish would have been harder to keep I imagine and I think he's more valuable to us in a footballing sense and as a financial asset. If we had kept him where would MM have any money to offer the wages demanded by the better level of free transfer player? With some of the cash up front it could put us in a different league (maybe literally come the end of the season...!!!!) in terms of paying the wages for quality freebies which is no bad route to take and avoids the risk of the fee being wasted. If we sign a player for 2m that's big time for us and if he's injured, not as good as we thought, can't fit in etc that's it, curtains all the eggs in one basket and we've wasted this golden opportunity to have some funds to attract the extra striker (hopefully done as part of the mings deal) RB, LB and a passing midfielder who can feed the impressive strikers we now have. If we get those positions right (and adding these players means serious strength in depth) we will be better equipped, overall, than if we kept Mings and retained more or less the same, over performing, squad as last season. I'm optimistic...
'Scuse me but it was Berra who cost us the game but some want Mings to carry the can.Cant say I'm happy(or suprised)we keep selling our best players and accept make weights in return.
