You have no idea how much of the World I have seen Paul.

Your problem is that you can't help but preach to us all about all the evils of the World, as if none of us are aware of any of them. You look down on everyone and treat us all like idiots, maintaining that you and you alone can see the light!!
Most of us are well aware of the pros and cons of capitalism etc and we don't need you to lecture us about them.

The fact is that you run down this Country and its people at every opportunity and it really is very strange that you still choose to live among us idiots!!

No offence Col I can see all points
If you looked deeper you may see that my frustration with the UK isn't that different
    We are all conditioned
I was born in the deepest country and spent my first 20 years on a farm
Having left for the big city I realised very quickly things were not right
I am the biggest hypocrite on here making money and always wanting more my first overseas property was purchased for the wrong reasons it was a status symbol when I look back at it
As I tried to rediscover my roots in the country I was shocked to find my homeland being taken over by business people from London
Seeing the error of my ways I found I couldn't move back to the land I loved as I couldn't afford it nor would I pay the prices . Life slowly looked a lot better in another culture because it actually was.
It took two wives to make me see sense and I gave away all the wealth I had obtained , signed away my inheritance and decided to live a better life and start over.
It was sincerely a turning point in my life . I share the frustrations of where we have got to but feel I at last have a open and free mind . I have travelled and see poverty first hand
I worked for charities only to find big business behind them
All the while I have watched things get worse not better
I am very grateful for the living that the UK has given me but I cannot return to those days in the same way I was then
My work rewards me as it involves making trends and ideas happen but I am in continue conflict with the mind set behind the products I promote for tomorrow. I find it very easy to give my employers what they seek because they have made the public addicted. I am also ashamed to say that my first career was in pharmaceuticals where I worked making profit from sickness

Add all these up and you get the Pratt I am but I am aware that I am

I do get a lot of what you say. I just wish you would give the rest of us a little more credit sometimes that's all.

My eldest son is forever railing against authority and the government. He forever tells me that we are all pawns in the corrupt plans of big business etc. I know he's right some of the time, but I have simply accepted that there's nothing I can do about it.
Therefore, I complain a lot and try to live life in the right way. I need money and therefore I need to play the game.

Some really interesting points made. Find the major issue for me is the integration, not because I expect Muslim to all be having a Sunday roast, but because I find their beliefs, certainly when acted upon but even just the threat of can be criminal in this country. Be that the homophobia, studies indicate about 1 in 10 people are homosexual but not within the Islamic community ;) and also the treatment of women, the way they dress, whether the woman wants to or not is irrelevant, they don't really have a choice and therefore can only be a sign of oppression as well as in general, I can only go by the people I have known over the years, but the majority have indicated women are seen 'as beneath men', whilst the others haven't made their views known either way.

On a similar line I was down the pub the other day talking about the same issue and one bloke said to me something that was very strange. 'I'm proud to be British'. I find that totally weird, surely you can take personal pride of something you have accomplished not something that is due to circumstances that you had nothing to do with.

I don't know. We may say we are proud to support QPR. Same concept I guess. For such a small nation we've achieved some remarkable things.

One anomaly with Muslims in the UK is they seem to be the only religion that is getting more visibly religious, if that makes senses. Jews, Hindus etc. my age (25) are generally far more secular and therefore integrated. Some Muslims I know and some I went to school with feel a bit persecuted and rebel against that, be it via social media or by portraying themselves as 'more' Muslim than their parent's generation.

    In the UK in 2011
    60% Christianity
    25% No Religion
    4% Islam
    1.5% Hinduism
    9.5% Other

    In the UK in 2014
    50% No Religion
    39% Christianity
    5% Islam
    1.5% Hinduism
    4.5% Other

So if these figures are right and continue on trend what will happen?
I predict that the COE will sell off its churches maybe to Tescos are there is always good parking … they can tarmac over the gravestones
As for the land? … we need more unaffordable houses so we people can stay in and watch Netflix apart from Sundays when they all go out in the cars they don't own to garden centres that turn into zoos to look at real live animals

Where did that come from - sorry but I simply do not believe that non belief has doubled in 3 years and that christianity has gone down by that much.

Not sure where Paul got his 2014 stats from, but the changes between 2001 and 2011 are quite significant according to the ONS.

Compared with the 2001 Census2 the most significant trends were

    • an increase in the population reporting no religion – from 14.8 per cent of the population in 2001

to 25.1 per cent in 2011,

    • a drop in the population reporting to be Christian - from 71.7 per cent in 2001 to 59.3 per cent in

    2011, and

    • an increase in all other main religions. The number of Muslims increased the most from 3.0 per

cent in 2001 to 4.8 per cent in 2011.

I searched using carrot production in the 70s and got back some very interesting figures

I replaced the varieties of carrot with religions and added 14

It's all very well quoting UK statistics but that doesn't reflect the concentration of various nationalities/religions in many inner-city areas, which is reflected in the gist of the OP. I work driving in London and if you go through areas such as Bethnal Green and Whitechapel the concentration of one ethnic community is reflected throughout the area and you could be in a foreign country looking at the shops and surroundings you see. The same can be said for Tooting, Southall and even Edgware Road in central London.

In these areas the Muslim community is becoming the majority, so quoting figures of 4 or 5% nationally bears no resemblance to the reality of certain areas and the impact it has had on the lives of those living in these areas. This is becoming a problem with various towns around the country where many immigrants from Eastern Europe have settled due to employers recruiting from abroad and to class such areas as 'ghettos' reflects the fact many of the immigrants do not assimilate and integrate easily into the local society. It is difficult to see things improving when it appears we are an open destination for those desperate to flee poverty in their homelands...
