If I were a Pompey fan this would be the team I would love to have as a twin given their fall from grace. If you look at their 1999 UEFA Cup winning team it is a who's who in European and World football. Pompey's 2008 FA Cup winning team wasn't far off in terms of the quality. So both have fallen on hard times!! Let's hope Pompey and their twin can start climbing their respective leagues. Perhaps the fans could set up a twinning association with Parma.

What do you think of "twinning" with other clubs Woopert's? Chelsea fans have "twinned" with Feyenoord and Glasgow Rangers while Celtic have twinned with St Pauli, an Israeli team and one other. Being a bit part Pompey fan (I use to go to Fratton Park during the 80s and 90s), I'd like to see a twinning with maybe Parma due to the shared experiences, from Germany Hannover and in Spain I'd go for Sevilla simply because they have a classy team as well as Seville being an extremely attractive city.

Lest we forget that the Scummers were about a day away from extinction if the bid from old Big Nose and Fialka the Mummy's boy had run its course, Instead and luckily for the stripey lot, the fat German stepped in and after writing off £15mn of stadium debt by only paying NU about £12mn, laughed his way all the way to the bank. I wonder when the good equally fat fraulein will cash her chips in?

I fail to see the connection with setting up a friendship with the fans of Parma, Hannover and Sevilla for reasons that I have highlighted.

Our "fat German" could have saved his £12m and bought you lot for £120m

...but then again, he was a businessman, not a loony.

£15m debt at the bottom of the Championship (and most of it paid) ......outrageous! I suppose achieving meltdown while still being funded by Sky in the Premier League entitles you to a much bigger black hole than that? £100m ish? Fair enough, I suppose. After all, it was (and still is) a UNIQUE achievement <applause>

Any chance of getting back to the point? I think it would be good to form friendships with fans of other clubs, particularly Continental ones. Invite them across, have a drink, take them to a match, take them home, show them the best of Hampshire. And in return they invite you to a weekend in Parma where you can enjoy wonderful sunshine in the Plaza while Pompey are playing in some northern outpost on a cold February afternoon.

How about we go to Parma then and start the process? One weekend next spring when Pompey are in a far flung part of the Empire or are playing someone like Manchester United in the FA Cup 4th round!

Parma does sound very appealing and they have fallen from grace pretty spectacularly in the last year or so. I'm not sure to our financial meltdown levels to allude to other posts but they'd be a good fit.
