Never mind Graham Carr`s Binoculars, that should read "rose tinted binoculars". We will end up with a load of people no fcukers has heard of, as per usual. Wake up people, we are being well and truly Mindfcuked!!!

I can guarantee that 2-3 weeks ago you were saying "Carver will be manager, there will be no fresh start" etc. You were proven wrong with the appointment of McClaren as both Head Coach and Board Member.

I personally think we'll get Austin, my biggest preference is Matip. A commanding CB is needed more than a striker, Matip is also good on the ball too sould be a great signing.

But who we'd prefer the club to sign etc doesn't matter. I'll say it again, Villa, Sunderland, Stoke, West Ham, Leicester, Norwich, Bournemouth, Swansea & Southampton, none of them have signed anyone I'd have wanted us to get, the market simply hasn't got going yet. If it was a case of signing Gignac last week or waiting 2-3 weeks and getting Austin or Dost, or maybe even both then I'd know what I'd rather do and that's wait and get it right rather than rush and get it wrong.

Following Ashley's interview it would have been so easy for the club to go out and get Ayew, Gignac, Richards etc and get the season ticket sales, I mean all three were free transfers after all. There's nothing wrong with the club taking their time, plenty of other club are.

It's simple, don't get your season ticket/membership renewed until you're satisfied with the signings/back room team. Whinging about a lack of signings before the transfer window has closed (or even opened in this case) is like complaining that the weather is going to be bad next summer. Complain as and when it rains but not before.

This is sensible, of course, but you cannot tell a fanbase who have been so consistently burned by the leadership team not to have a negative outlook. What's the point in calmly plodding along on forums not being allowed to complain until 1st September?!

Besides which the activity so far has been underwhelming. 150+ days to appoint McClaren, how does anyone explain this kind of delay? It took Palace a fortnight to employ Pardew, 6 days for Derby to secure Clements, less than a week for West Ham to appoint Bilic. We know of 3 coaches not interested, which means he thought they were "the best", but they don't want to come. Charnley remains silent, as does the SLO I was in contact with. It seemed a good idea, but it's about building momentum. People say "it's early in the window", but name one other club without a back office team? Does any PL club have the desperate need for players that we do? Even Watford have signed 3.

Signs aren't good and for 8 years we've been subjected to a consistent lack of leadership and commitment. Why is it going to change this time?

West Ham basically took as long as us to appoint Billic, the whole footballing world new Allardyce was going in the summer. It's not like they didn't want to replace Pardew, they interviewed Garde but apparently he was underwhelming in his interview to say the least. One thing you have to give credit to the club for is that they back their managers (maybe not financially in the past, but certainly through time) and due to this it's vital that they got who they believed to be the right man.

Garde and McClaren turned us down after Pardew left, not getting a Redknappy/Hoddle in as an interim appointment was a bigger mistake than not getting a long term manager there and then IMO.

Of the players Watford have signed would you want any of them? If we had signed the lad from St Ettiene that Swansea just signed you'd have all been moaning that it's just another below par French player in the mould of Riviere etc.

As for Derby getting Clement, he'd just been sacked so was out of work. It's much easier to appoint a manager when the season is over compared to midway through.

If by September 1st we've signed Austin, Dost, Matip, Townsend and two others all this moaning would have been pointless. I'd much rather disucss who it's worth keeping from the current squad and if we think McClaren will be tactically astute enough to get the best out of Cabella by maybe playing him as a "10" etc.

People are whinging about not signing Austin but nobody else has signed him either and I don't see their fans having a meltdown.

Fair enough, I don't think either argument is necessarily wrong, just about perspective. I actually think with the present squad we won't be haunted by the spectre of relegation under McClaren. I think he has enough about him to make sure we're ok. I am, in my brighter moments, fairly interested in the prospect of what tactics we will employ, and how SDJ might feature. What did he use at Derby?

What isn't perspective, however, is that Cabella is not a No 10!!

Cabella scored/created a shed load of goals at Montellier playing off the main strikers.

At Derby he played 4-3-3 and was very gung-ho. He said as much in a interview not long ago (can't find the link) but basically crowds were down on the season before so he set out to win back the fans by scoring a shed load of goals. McClaren now is a very different McClaren to the one who managed Middlesbrough. He was very defensively minded back then, not sure if his stint in Holland changed this given how they appreciate good football over there but he's certainly more attacked minded nowadays, or at least he was at Derby.

When you look at our squad we have Krul, Janmaat, Sissoko, Colback, De Jong that are certain starters and also damn good players. We then have players where this is their "do or die" season in Cabella, Tiote, Cisse, Colo, Taylor who need to come good, if McClaren can get those five back to their best and with the five mentioned above (provided De Jong stays fit) we then have a good base to work from. Add Perez, Armstrong, Kemen, Abeid, Darlow, Lascelles to that squad and it's not in a bad as shape as most think IMO.

I mean it's obvious we need a class act a CB and a striker that will get 15 plus goals. The reported 6 players we're after in terms of numbers should be enough to see a top half finish IMO.

I think 8 years under the patronage of ashley is enough time for me to be patient. I have ran out patience and I'm sick of hearing lies and excuses!!

I would prefer our transfer activity to be complete by the beginning of August. The season starts and we have four tough games to play before the end of the window. I agree though that we need to judge on what happens rather than what we think is going to happen.
Of course its hard not to base your opinion on past experience but if Mikey accepts he has made mistakes in the past isn't that the first step in facing up to his addiction to running businesses only as cash cows. I expect he is now making up his 10 point plan of how to crack this addiction:
    1. I must stop thinking that a criteria for managing a business I own is that the candidate is cheap, has been around a long time, owes me gambling debts, was born in the area and/or is a fan (Done)
    2. I must stop buying distressed companies and trying to resurrect their brands by selling them as cheap tat (mmm.. maybe later)
    3. I must stop zero hours contracts
    4. I must learn to accept that sometimes the reason a player is cheap is that he is crXp (Riviere), prone to injury (De Jong) or a scam by Russian mobsters (Ferreyra)
    5. I must start to realise that bargaining is a two-way process. I have to give a bit as well.
    6. I must keep all my stakeholders engaged. I need to recognise that those fans who buy season tickets are just the same as the shareholders in Sport Direct. They want to see continuous improvement in performance, but on the pitch, not just the bottom line
    7. I must realise that my businesses are seperate entities and stop trying to use the services of one to promote the other unless it pays for the privilege.
    8. & 9. I must stop making lists and start doing something about it quick
    10. I must apologise to all the people I have treated badly due to my addiction. However if its OK I am going to leave that BRS guy to last as he scares the shxt out of me.
If he actually gets up to No.7 then I will be quite happy with the way the Summer has gone.

All this September 1st ****e is bollocks. If you are trying to show a shift in intent, like we claim, you don't wait until the eve of the season or end of the window. You get your business done early in terms of playing staff and coaching staff. By July 17th you want the vast majority of your squad in place, certainly the spine of your team (centre backs, centre mid, strikers)You then batten down the hatches and get stuck into some serious work.

You don't roll out excuses about value for money, difficult to do business early, everybody is waiting etc. There are plenty going to be active in the period between now and the 17th. If we are then great, if not the question is answered, and we still haven't got a clue or care.

Also I believe you have to judge on what you have, not what you might have. So its no good second guessing what this board will do in terms of transfers. They have a long history of big promises, delivering little. They are the equivalent of Nev in the bedroom (according to ACS). At this time we are relegation fodder. We will remain so until something is done about it. That isn't being negative, its just being realistic.

This is an interesting take on the lack of activity http://t.co/v4PHkMP78X and quite believable. Maybe we'll see some movement on wed

Nice idea but boXXocks. In the Premier League no signings can be ratified until 1st July unless they are players out of contract so they would automatically go onto the books in the new financial year. You only start messing around with end of year figures like that to either satisfy shareholders or reduce tax exposure. As the club doesn't have shareholders other than MASH and is carrying forward large losses it really doesn't matter how much profit is made in 2014-15 compared to 2015-2016.

If I was Steve McLaren I would have insisted that I be allowed to carry out a full review of the playing staff before providing Carr with a list of positions that I felt needed to be filled from outside and then go through his extensive scouting portfolio to identify names for those positions. Thats my hope anyway!.
