Swansea confirm appointment of Arsenal & ex-QPR GK coach Tony Roberts

As reported yesterday former Wales international goalkeeper Tony Roberts has swapped North London for South West Wales, being appointed first-team goalkeeper coach where he’ll link up with Lukasz Fabianski who he previously worked with at Arsenal.
Roberts enjoyed a lengthy playing career, first with QPR before flitting between a few clubs, then joining Dagenham & Redbridge where he made almost 450 appearances. In terms of his coaching career, he returned to QPR to work as a goalkeeping coach upon retirement, before making the move across London to work with Arsenal – first as a youth coach before working with their first-team goalkeepers.
With the Swans recently announcing the appointment of James Beattie as a first-team coach it seems that Garry Monk is as keen to improve the backroom staff as he is the playing squad, and having recruited the well-respected Roberts it’s a signal of intent, and an indication that Swansea are fast becoming a club which can attract top talent – be it on or off the field.
A big Welsh welcome to Tony. Hopefully he can help us mastermind another league double over the Gunners, which would certainly go some way in vindicating his decision to make the trip from one end of the M4 to the other.

I can't disassociate Tony Roberts with that Paul Walsh freak goal in my mind.

Missed opportunity, would have been another quality back room staff to have with Rangers connection to add.

I saw this yesterday, maybe explains why arsenal have had keepers capable of some terrible howlers over the last few years!

Tony was a tremendous shot stopper but I've still never forgiven him for letting one through his legs (and hands) at Ipswich many moons ago!
