We need a very good centre back partnership. I'm not sure about Caulker, but I can't believe we can't get at least one quality up-and-coming prospect with that money and leave some money on the pot.

Cant help but think there is a decent centre half buried inside Caulker, a season of not being ripped to shreads will do his confidence a world of good and just maybe, be the making of him

Initial reaction is of course to sell based on his first year with us. But I believe it's more complex than that. The potential is there for all to see and there is a big difference facing Premier League forwards every week compared to Championship ones. A season or two in the Champ could really transform him imo. And lets not get started at our set up last season under Redknapp, you'll struggle to find a more unbalanced squad and first eleven than what we had to endure last season. I like the look of what Ramsey and Ferdinand is trying to build and it already looks to be more thought through than Redknapp' shambles. Which in turn should help players like Caulker to fulfill their potential and actually start delivering.
I'm more worried about his off field behavior. Two (apparently) drunken brawls in the last six months is a worry, and something the club should get to task with if deciding to retain the player.
Conclusion for me would be to give it one more year, if his on field AND off field performance/behavior improves we might be on to a winner.

Agree with this 100%, he's still a young guy who we haven't seen the best of. I'd like to see us persevere and a season in the Championship might do his confidence the world of good.

Sign up a vocal CB, an organiser to play alongside him and you'll see him at his best.

If I was a run of the mill Championship striker like Charlton, Cardiff etc. have I'd be relishing playing against Caulker. If we are stuck with him I just hope he manages to go a whole summer without some sort of drunken brawl.

€7.5m = £5353222.27 Think I'd probably take that for him and reinvest. Has a player ever been relegated from the prem three seasons in a row? Not sure it's a record he'd want to risk!

He's too ****ing dozy to know or care. He's probably only just reacted to heading the ball down to Jelavic three months ago.

We can't be that lucky can we?

He is beginning to rival Victor "bloody" Mobley as the worst centre half we have signed!

I do! We bought him from Sheff Wednesday in 1968 when we were adrift at the bottom of DIv 1. We paid £55000 for him. My late dad reckoned we had a good buy - experienced defender and all that ...but Vic was really slow. I am fairly sure that Rangers took Sheff Wednesday to court because they had sold us a crock - apparently his Achilles heel had gone before we handed over the cash.
