From what I saw, the keeper hadn't gone back into the dressing room so it still remains a wonderfully clean strike from 40 yards irrespective of the match situation.
The point is that if he gets back and blocks a cross that leads to a goal at 0-0 then we are in the game and may pick up a point. At 0-3 in the last 5/10 minutes the goal has an irrelevant impact on the result.
I don't think I've ever seen a ball struck better than that goal. If it had happened on the Scrubs it would have been no less outstanding.
Yes but I've never seen a blocked cross up for goal of the season. For that matter, they don't normally give a match context for the goal of the season contenders.
In the current market he's easily worth £8-10m but aside from filling the coffers see no reason to sell, given a run of games he improved a lot towards the back end of the season & should do well in the Championship. The way we're going we could end up putting out a team of 11 strangers for the start of the season.
He improved towards the end of the season and started to play to his potential but he was woeful early doors and injured. Everyone scores an amazing goal once in their life, took it well but it made no impact on the fact that the game was lost and we played crap. I thought Zamora's goal was technically better.
Stroller please don't knock the messiah Mackie! We don't need the Mackie fan club coming down on us. Forget potential we have Mackie!
Not sure where I have written let's keep Zamora and I can't see where I have mentioned Mackie either.
Phillips looked crap in the first half of the season because he was barely played and Redknapp, the experienced man manager, did nothing to help a mentally fragile player. A confidence player if you like. Put your arm around him, tell him to stick to what he's good at and he's a mid-table Premier League winger. Our best player under Ramsey IMO and his upturn in form wasn't a fluke. The bloke has done well before QPR too.
He's a one trick pony, just gets the ball under control and crosses it first time. The most predictable player in England. You're right, goal against Palace was meaningless, his good performances against Newcastle at home was against an atrocious side, likewise against Sunderland away. He doesn't exactly get you out of your seat when he gets the ball, I rarely recall seeing him go on a mazy dribble and he doesn't strike me as the fittest player in our squad either.
£8-10 might be pushing it a bit but I think Blind Faith is absolutely right about Phillips' potential to do well for us in the Championship and, importantly, the need to keep a core of our Premier League team as a basis for our 2015/16 team.
How do our recent signings stack up compared to those Paul Clement at Derby? I see they have signed Weimann from Villa, Chris Baird from WBA and are possibly also lining up Jason Shackell from Burnley.
Difficult to compare. What was the fee for Weimann? Prem wages I'd imagine. I wouldn't be excited about Baird at all. Looked piss poor for WBA and has been bang average for years but is versatile. Shackell is a very good signing if it happens for them but again probably quite big wages and the wrong side of 30. Still, he has an affinity with the club and is far better than Keogh/Buxton.
