Just wondering if our contract negotiator has remained the same and if so is this the reason that we pay too high a wage for journeyman/less then average players and always seem to let contracts run till the last minute before sorting them?
If you ask De Fanti it was PDC - if you ask PDC it was De Fanti - I think it's somewhere between them!! So - as for your opening question, neither of them do have a job!
I just think that to get players to come up here we have to compensate them with a little extra. If say West Ham were to offer £40 grand a week to someone we would probably have to offer £50 grand at least to even compete.
I wouldn't mind us paying over the odds for decent players, like Boro did for Juninho & Ravenelli, but to think we've overpaid for a nomark like Roberge, makes you wonder what was going on and who elses pockets were getting lined.
iirc Di Fanti got the hoof rather quietly. Not much publicity just removed out the back door. He was an agent as well remember.
Aye - exactly the opposite to the NHS - where you get an increased payment in your increment if you work in Londan! Although we are talking between 10k and 60k a year rather than a week!
Our Contract negotiator under Keane and Bruce was Quinn, It was Short under O'Neil, Di Fanti under PDC and 6 months of Poyet and Congerton since. I really doubt his wages are the issue, it's being unable to move him which will be the problem imo. I'd be staggered if Roberge is on a penny over 10k pw, that's how low the wages are on the continent for average players and how cheaply you can get them over to England. But Roberge will be getting offers for 3 or 4 grand a week back on the continent. That's how easy it is to get stuck with a **** overseas players. Hopefully it will be mutual Agreement like it was with Cabral if Roberge agrees. We can afford to with him being on such low wages. It's not like having to pay off the likes of Graham of Fletcher.

The whole thing`s got out of hand now Billy. I wouldn`t be the least surprised to see some shopping in Europe. Players unknown to us but high on DA`s radar. It`s the way it has to be for us I think. I know we`ve been saddled with ****e in the past but I would trust DA and Congers judgement over Di Fanti. Edit: At least until it goes tits up again.

I read they switched target because of Fletchers wages. It could be a case of precious Fletch not wanting to take a paycut and expecting us to supplement them..

Roberge, who has started just eight Premier League games in red and white, was handed a big-money deal by De Fanti when he arrived on a Bosman deal from Portugese side Maritimo two years ago. But there are still 12 months remaining on Roberge’s contract and the French defender struggled to put himself in the shop window when he made just 11 appearances for Reims during an injury-hit season-long loan stint with the Ligue 1 outfit last season. Congerton will have to find a suitor for Roberge though – probably on another loan - with minimal prospect of the 28-year-old getting a second chance at Sunderland under Advocaat. By contrast, there is a suitor for Mavrias, with Panathinaikos keen to keep hold of the winger after he returned to his boyhood club on loan for the second half of last season. But Panathinaikos are understood to be waiting for a response from Sunderland on their asking price for Mavrias, who is thought to be keen on staying in Greece himself. Sunderland are eager to part company with Mavrias after pro-actively looking for a new club for the 21-year-old in the January window, but they would face a huge loss if they sold him to Panathinaikos. De Fanti shelled out £2m to bring Mavrias to Wearside two years ago, but Panathinaikos budget would not stretch into seven figures, while they would look to pay Sunderland in instalments, depending on their success in European competitions next season. Ba still has an outside chance of featuring for Sunderland, despite suffering a broken leg during his season-long loan stint with French side Bastia. But if Sunderland do receive a suitable offer for the midfielder, then he will be another to leave the club.
