A fair argument to make, if your central claim was correct. Teddy Bishop has signed a contract that runs until 2018, and the club has the option to extend it to 2019, not 2017, the year you claim. If we sell him next summer (2016), then there are still two or three years left on his contract. Therefore, we shouldn't accept a bid of £2m for what is a promising, young English midfielder, regardless of whether we have an option to borrow him for a year. I hate hyping up players, but I think that for anybody who has watched Bishop several times this year, it's obvious this lad is technically proficient and has the potential to play Premier League football. He is a player we should keep hold of, both for the sake of developing the player by providing him with first-team opportunities and for the sake of the club hopefully getting some good performances out of him, leading to the option of selling him on for more money in the future. In today's inflated transfer market, especially when it comes to young, English talent, £2m is a joke, especially when he's contracted to the club until 2018 or 2019.
fair enough I didn't see that his contract was extended. Although that doesn't change the central point (it remains better to sell earlier if you can) you are right that sheds a different light on things. And on that basis £2m would be too low if he's as promising as you say - although make sure you don't be too inclined to overestimate your own players (I thought Chris Martin might play for England when I saw him as a young'un...) I do think there is an overestimation of player values though (not by yourselves, just generally in the Championship) - what's the highest a midfielder from the Championship has been bought for? Maybe Bale for £13m but then he's an attacking player, which hikes up value. The trouble is that it means fans are left disappointed by what they hear as the fee, when actually it might be a very good deal when you take all business decisions into consideration
exactly what nuggets has said, which shows just how little Rob knows. nuggets, I wouldn't take that 2 million as serious because he is only on here on a wind up and trying (which he probably has done a little) to get me or anyone else to react. that's my final word on the subject because I just be arsed to argue the fact with an idiot like him. cheers rob for disrupting a thread which was what you girls were crying about on your board, and you have the cheek to call me two faced and once again bringing up that old subject which has been put to bed many moons ago just to save face and once again cause trouble between the 2 boards. whats the point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live in London so I can't get to home games, but I go to every away game I can get a ticket to, generally London, which means probably an average of three games a season unfortunately - last I got to four (but that includes the play-off final). Does it matter if you can't go to home games? Am I less of a fan? I don't think so, but fair enough it's a difficult one as you do get to see more about the football on the pitch (and is one of the reasons it's great to be back at home in the PL...) However, it's irrelevant to understanding the business of football (which is big business), if that's what you're interested in.
Guru mate, you are such a hypocrite - nuggets posted a perfectly legitmate question and we had a civil debate which I found interesting. He provided information which I wasn't aware of, which shed more light. I.e. he contributed. If you had had half his comprehension skills, you would have done the same. I just want to chat about football. It seems, to your shame, that some of your fellow Ipswich fans also want to chat about football. Oddly enough, that has resulted in us chatting about football. Except you. As it is, you have disrupted this thread with your perpetual slagging off, handbags and gibes. Everyone else was trying to have a perfectly civil discussion, you resort to personal abuse. I really don't know how you can be so blind to yourself here, when your fellow Ipswich fans have shown how easy it is to have a perfectly decent conversation without trying to points score, abuse and generally disrupt a thread. Since the moment I entered this thread you have done your level best to attack me, to then paint yourself as the victim, and then hypocritically resort to abusing me because you don't like it. Some welcoming board! And as usual, you have to have the "final word". You have to be the last one to make a dig, the last one to abuse. It is all very childish. EDIT: although to be fair to you, I am glad you acknowledge that I made a fair argument like nuggets said - I appreciate that
I know! But I do think it's a fair question to ask because I don't get to as many games as I would like
Nowadays I get to Portman Road about 10 games a season as it is a 180 Mile round trip for me but I don't feel any less of a fan because of it!
I think 10 games is a good amount to make an assessment of how players are performing though - this season I found it very difficult to be objective about players without seeing them on TV often or live. You do need to see them in a variety of different matches, so that they have good and bad days
" Does it matter if you can't go to home games? Am I less of a fan? " Well I've been to Portman Road once in six years ( Norwich 1-1 ) but set a new record of 13 away games this season - mainly in thanks to a friend who kept asking me to go. Pretty sure I will attend a lot less games this coming season.
Tbf Rob when your trying to have a honest/decent chat it might serve you better to not refer to those you want to engage with as 'Binners' it could rile up some people before they actually respond.....just a thought mate... Doesn't bother me as being a working class hero I think the Sanitation engineers are hard working, honest and a value to society so I don't feel any offence being called a binman ............
He's a difficult one Rob - generally been great and useful in this thread - however was an absolute ( insert rude term here ) on another thread on their board.
Of the two Mings is more likely to be sold. With Parr and Clarke in the wings as ready replacements any money can be reinvested elsewhere. More likely to be Crystal Palace or West Brom I'd imagine. Style of play is that bit more similar so easier to slot Ming's straight in.
Sorry Weighty it's a fair point - if you look back you can see I genuinely tried to use "Ipswich" where needed, but one use slipped through my edit net! Westy are you sure that was me? I'm pretty sure we had this convo before and you mistook me for someone else - if you're sure it was me let me know (by PM if you prefer) and I'll be more than happy to apologise
There was potentially confusion between us once which if that is the case sure, I'm sorry for. However, I can quite clearly remember you having a very arrogant/ difficult writing style on other occasions. If you're like you have been on this generally then we'll get along just fine. Been a decent thread this! Fixtures out, we start at Brentford.....
Thanks westy - good to know this thread is decent! I didn't realise you'd found my writing arrogant/difficult - apologies for that, it wasn't intentional Best of luck against the bees
