Coates close to signing a permanent deal according to some journo on twitter. £4m Glad we are getting him but tad high price for me. Last year of contract and never been a feature at Liverpool. Other clubs would have haggled them down to £2m. We always seem to pay over the odds.
Doubt it very much TBH - none of us know the ins and outs but I reckon £4m is a fair price - he looked exactly what we needed at the end of the season (once he settled) and he knows the system! Plus there's also the case that the journo could just have spun a wheel which had 5 sections of £4m, 5 sections of £3m and 5 sections of £2m - he just picked the one it landed on!!
Aye ok..but how do you say his name? co-a-tez or just coats. puffy foreign names.. henry being tthe worse.
Disagree. He cost them 7 million, he's a regular international and showed at the end of the season how good he would be, first CB in a long time to play the perfect game for us. Nobody was getting this lad for 2 million imo. Football inflation alone means they wouldn't.
The figure usually quoted often tends to be overstated because it assumes 100% of potential add-on bonuses that may not in the event be paid, plus wages.
Good news in my opinion. Get some business done early for once. Is he worth a starting position though? I think we saw enough in the run in to suggest he will be good enough.
I don't care what he costs; it ain't my money. Just as well actually, or we'd be re-signing Andy Melville
Bloody hell, I know with Brown and O'Shea we love our pensioners in defence but signing a bloke who made his debut against us at Roker Park in 1980 is taking things a bit far...
http://wiz1.net/channel2 Started for Uruguay in the copa america today, Paulo Da Silva has started for Paraguay too.
South Americans often need more than 14 league starts to adapt. To say he didn't get a fair crack of the whip is an understatement.
