The Beatles themselves quoted that album as the kick they needed to record/release what they really wanted to do

I don't 'get' the pedestal The Fall are put on simply because Mark E Smith is a **** in interviews and his songs don't have choruses

Brian Wilson has admitted that without Rubber Soul, he would never have made Pet Sounds.

Metalica(only good songs are covers and they aren't anywhere nears as good)
Pink Floyd (ambient prog rock has to be about the most boring thing I've ever heard)
Coldplay(How can a man so hated by the masses sell so many records with his band)

MODERN R&B! I remember when R&B was about the blues, love and the music, today's R&B seems obsessed with Money, status and objectifying women as sex status possessions. Black music has never been in such a state.

Pink Floyd, great musicians but just don't like them.

The 3 seminal British bands of all time, whether you like them or not, has to be:
The Beatles (without them there would have been no British music scene)
The Sex Pistols (fought against the prog rock culture that had taken over and gave the music back to the youth, created a whole youth culture)
Oasis (kickstarted the whole Britpop, cool Britannia sound and culture of the 90's which the earlier bands, Stone Roses, Blur, Happy Mondays hadn't managed)
That was just a quick prognosis but they not only influenced general music at the time, they also affected society and culture outside of music.

Loathe them as should one could argue Cliff Richard and The Shadows. They were a massive Beatles influence.

Metallicas early stuff is decent, they sold out early 90's and have been poor ever since, was a fan back in the day, the decline started in 1991 (showing my age) with the Black Album

I'll be honest, I'm not a rock fan, especially American. My rock interests in the states pretty much stop with the Doors and it's their blues albums like LA Women and Morrision Hotel which I prefer.

Had strange attraction to British noughties Indie rock though.

And the Stone Roses were a massive Oasis influence, The Faces were massive influences for the Pistols, Elvis was a massive influence for the Beatles, yet none of them had the same level of influence on British music, youth culture and society as a whole as the 3 bands I mentioned

Very true, but it's good to acknowledge those who inspired him. Like I said I hate The Shadows but their influence really helped Beatles establish their own British sound while taking influence from like you say Elvis and the likes of Chuck Berry.

Love the Doors! I agree about Metallicas awful covers and stuff like that but up to 1988 their albums were decent, I think they just got a bit middle-aged with the thrash metal very quickly and decided to cash in, MTV was massive back in the early 1990's and they went for that market with power ballads

Withnail and I got me into Hendrix, only got his greatest hits mind you, no expert but do enjoy him. I'd obtain more but really getting into Groove at the moment so all my attentions are focused on that.

Too country for me and there's something odd about the lead singer being a drummer.
