lets put it this way, 2 of the most highly touted young English players in the championship? you would need to stump up at least 10 million for each of them because A: we don't need to sell, B: There are bigger clubs with more money than you & C: Why would they want to be back in the championship the next year? you boys ought to get back on dreaming of the return of wolfie!
A: we don't need to sell, That's not really true though is it? And you know it. All clubs bar toys like Man City and Chelsea really do need to sell at times, and given that you only just scraped past FFP last time out plus all of ME's debt, surely even you would accept that if the price is right, you'll sell? B: There are bigger clubs with more money than you Eh? Who that is bigger than us has put in a concrete offer for either of these boys? There aren't many PL clubs willing to take a punt on unproven youngsters often. No matter how much the fans rate them, the fact is they're a big risk. C: Why would they want to be back in the championship the next year? This is ******ed logic. Why would they want to stay in the championship this year? All players leap at the chance to play a season in the PL, as you know only too well, even if they might get relegated, it's better than another year in the Championship immediately. Obviously. And they have a decent shout of getting sold to another PL team if they prove they can make the grade. But aside from your reasoning being fundamentally wrong, £10m for each doesn't make sense either. Championship players fairly reliably sell for between 2 and 2.5 x their asset value. Sometimes as high as 3 if it all works favourably. The transfermarkt website is pretty accurate (it's actually a professional consultancy service that clubs use, but they show limited data publicly). The more valuable they are, though, the less the multiple. Some examples: Connor Wickham was sold for £7.92m to Sunderland when his market value was £3.52m. And that was a good price. Aaron Cresswell was sold for £4.18m to West Ham when his market value was £1.32m. Another excellent price. Teddy Bishop is worth £2.2m and Tyrone Mings is worth £2.6m, so together you could say at absolute most they could go for £14m if someone was really desperate to buy them. The other thing is that immediate loan backs also knock off a huge amount from the purchase price (basically the loan fee). So the best price achievable if the other team were desperate to buy and loan back one is that it would be around £12m. So if I'm being totally honest £4m does sound suspiciously low to me, the fair price for the pair would be about £8m-9m, with suitable add-ons being negotiated. But as an opening bid I wouldn't be surprised. And Evans has shown himself willing to jump at that - it would add 50% to your revenue and a significant chunk of the debt paid off. That would be a very good sell.
I doubt Marcus Evans has an irrational distaste for yellow and green money. If we offer better terms than any other clubs (again, I don't see any other clubs willing to stump up the money or take the risk) then my guess is that he is a savvy enough businessman to take it with thanks.
Don't be ridiculous. He sold Cresswell for a tidy sum, he sold Wickham for a tidy sum. Both transfers you did very well out of. He's too smart to let emotion rule finances - if the price is right, in football you sell and maximise the use of the funds. I don't have much time for McCarthy's style of football, but if there were to be any manager in the Championship who you would trust to spend a few million wisely, it's got to be him. Especially if you get Bishop back on loan anyway, that would basically be at least £3m to replace Mings and strengthen elsewhere - that could easily be the difference between promotion or not.
A: we don't need to sell until we get what we want, this has been said many times from our board! B: How do you know what has or not been offered for them? Im just saying that there has been scouts from every premiership club looking at these to. that is a fact! C:To keep up their development playing in a team nearly if not every week, getting used to winning and not at a club hanging on by the skin of their teeth. Also, please refrain from the abuse bolded rob, as we all know as you have stated many times, you boys don't wum! or is that only when the going isn't good for you guys because you are spineless. at least we are big enough to speak to you guys through good and bad times and not only crawl out the woodwork at certain times!
Oh don't resort to your usual pitiful cries. Describing logic as "******ed" is not abuse. I did not say you were ******ed. Come on! We were having a perfectly decent discussion and you resort to victimhood at the first possible opportunity (barely even that). Now let's just stick to the discussion rather than trying to points score. I don't specifcally recall saying that I never WUM, btw - you'll have to remind me when I said it. Please do point me to the right post. I trust you not to use hyperbole, so I believe that I might have said something like that, but you're going to have to highlight it. Please can you do so? A: I never said you didn't have to sell until you get what you want. I'm just saying what Evans wants is likely to be around as I've set out above. I've demonstrated pretty clearly and logically, using obvious examples from your past transfers. The fact is your manager could use that money extremely effectively. B: I never said I knew what others had offered. Point to me where I said that. I asked you to verify which other clubs with more money have offered for these players. Please do so. Chz. C: Even you don't believe that, let's face it. One season in the PL will open far more doors than another in the Championship, let alone pay more cash. You know that, I know that, the agents know that and the players sure as hell know that. Besides, you seem to have completely overlooked the point of a buy and loan back.
San Diego/other Ipswich mod - please can you clarify? Is the phrase "that is ******ed logic" abusive?
The plain fact of the matter is this is all bullshit, your club would be the last club with a chance of these guys will play for in the immediate future . all you are try to do is get a reaction, well hard luck buddy and keep dreaming of wolfie!
FFS! Im just saying that you can get your argument across without that statement, you knew that it would get a reaction. no need to open up old wounds!
Evans turned down substantial bids last season from Premier League clubs for Mings and McGoldrick so don't hold your breath and if we did sell it wouldn't be to you bunch of idiots!
Well, it wasn't. It was a statement about your point. I apologise that it caused a reaction, that certainly wasn't my intention. Slapheads and "bunch of idiots" are hardly any less provocative. I didn't expect your forum to be so strict.
What was the rumoured price he turned down out of interest? Bear in mind that as his contract runs down, the price follows btw Mc Goldrick would be more expensive as a striker. I don't know why you both keep repeating the baseless mantra that you wouldn't sell to Norwich. As I've said repeatedly, Evans is far too savvy to think that a better deal offered by Norwich should be turned down just because it comes tinged in green and yellow. Our money is as good as any other money, and in fact we have a very good record of relationships with clubs we have bought from - like Swindon and Hamilton Accies. I would prefer the PL money stayed in East Anglia personally. But also, think it through - if say Evans gave McCarthy even £4m to replace Mings (given you wouldn't have to replace Bishop as he'd still be there), don't you think it's that sort of transfer kitty that could really make a difference? Defence is already your strongest position, so you wouldn't even necessarily have to invest in a defender. You could buy two pretty classy midfielders at Championship level.
roughly 8 million, we put a price of 11 million on mcgoldrick because we are in a situation now that we can name our price on important players. rumours were that we turned down 4 million for mings in January from palace, for a guy who had only half a season under his belt. Potential also has a price and thes guys are on decent length contracts, and we don't need to sell because Evans knows that the only way he will get his return is by us in the premier league. also after the first playoff leg Marcus Evans was talking to fans and saying how he had got bitten by the bug and wanted town in the premier more than anything and more days like that.
its not strict rob, just no need to start world war 3 when you are bored. both sets of mods probably have had enough of the **** caused by harmless comments!
Come on Rob your representing the Norwich board when over here ...so behave here how you would at home...
West Brom and Newcastle are being linked with a move for Young Mings ....and as has been stated nearly every other prem club has had scouts watching him including the bigger boys.........and as I'm sure Rob will point out demand will almost certainly increase his value................
Saw Mings coming out of Carrow Road with McNally at around 2:00PM so there might be some legs in this
