Jones is playing RB, and there are plenty of good English RBs - Kyle Walker springs to mind, not sure why he's not in the squad. The most crazily overlooked RB has been Micah Richards - he's still only 26.

LB we seem to have a bunch - Luke Shaw, Leighton Baines, Ryan Bertrand, Keiron Gibbs...

CB is a bit tougher, however, it's obvious that if Smalling is the answer, nobody understands the question properly. I think Cahil is a shoe-in at the moment whilst fit, although he was cuplable for Slovenia's first goal in not covering the run of the striker. Jagiekla is one I would play ahead of Smalling or Jones, but he's knocking on a bit now. Outside of those there's really not many younger players coming through - certainly nobody in the U21 side stands out for me.

Richards is a bit of a mess. Did ok in Italy but he's barely played for years and doesn't come across as having the best attitude. Walker has been shown up as a greyhound with little ability. Clyne should be in the side though.

The Everton youngster Stones will be a shoe-in at centre back but who will partner him? None of the regulars inspire confidence, we may have to look at the current U20 team for the answer...
