Vlaar was the worst player on the pitch when we played Villa, if Guidetti had any potential value he wouldn't have been release so no for either from me.
It's amazing how quickly players can go from being flavour of the month to being unemployed. I know he's struggled with injuries, but I remember sky pundits doing an analysis on Abou Diaby a few years ago and referring to him as "the new Vieira". Darren Bent cost £19m a couple of years ago and was an international striker. Ron Vlaar played in a World Cup semi final less than a year ago as Holland kept a clean sheet against Messi, Aguero, Higuain etc for 120 minutes. Brede Hangeland was apparently wanted by Arsenal a few years ago. Micah Richards won an FA Cup and was the natural replacement for Gary Neville at RB for England. How long has Twatbeard got left on his contract?
You might want to back up on the Guidetti one. He was released from Man City. They are only interested in top of the line players, not those under the top. By all accounts he is a very promising player. I'm not suggesting he is our type and quality of player, but I wouldn't be quite so quick to dismiss him either.
Diaby is a quality footballer, he just can't get over the injuries. A real waste of his talent. If he was fit, he'd be playing first in the Arsenal team sheet.
Promising, maybe. I thought he was going to be the next big thing from their academy, but letting him go for free suggests they don't see any resale value in him, or that he wanted to progress his career elsewhere. I guess we will see if another club comes in for him.
Agreed. Or, "Abu Dhabi", as Merson often referred to him. Real shame to see talents wasted to injury. We've had quite a few in recent years: Pahars, Oakley, Michael Svensson..
I would quite happily give Jonas Guitierrez a call and let him now we may need a bit of depth this season if he fancies it. Europa League experience too
Most years there's often a few names which take me interest. This year, only Jaaskelainen or Tremmel would I take from that list - and that's only as back up (mainly just in case we fail to sign/loan a decent replacement for Forster, whilst he's out injured). Brown has signed a new contract with Sunderland. God knows why (from Sunderland's point of view).
I think the biggest shame is many of those youth players released were dubbed big prospects a few year ago like George Green, Jak Alnwick, Ryo Myachi, Jack Jebb, etc. so many never get much of a chance and no one is willing to take a risk in the Premier League
Positionally Micah Richards is not good enough. It is interesting to see under consecutive England managers none of the defense first minded managers have given him any time. Vlaar is just too slow to play Sherwood's crazy high line!
