George Youngs, machinist and turner i believe, was the year above me. Was you maybe in my year then? When i said i was there in 1981, thats the year i started, so was in the training school 81-82. I certainly do remember the riding the shaper at as high a speed as possible and at the longest stroke, and as you say dancing on the marking off table when PH walked out of the room. You forgot about Billy Bell the sparky instructor. How about eating as many sausage rolls from the canteen on a tea break (thats assuming you was in my year of course).
What about Aerospace? You could do the old gag. How many people work at Aerospace Brough? About half of them.
Surprised to ideal standard on there cause there's no way they have that many staff left, ideal boilers have far more than they do and dare to say make a **** load more money
I didnt get that far. Didnt you have to do a test thing before getting to interviews? I fell at the first
No, not there either. Worked on fish dock a bit, Rosens shoe factory a bit, a processed fish factory whose name I can't remember, then moved away. I was working my way up Hessle Road so I suppose I would have eventually got to Reckitts. They had a place in Gipsyvile didn't they?
I work there. We have easily that many staff and the turnover is about right. Hull isn't our only site either.
I honestly didn't think there was that many left their now, every time I've been there they must've only been 40 tops in the bath plant, few in warehouse/shower enclosures etc surely there's not that many office staff? I know there's plenty more sites but I think this is only taking in people based at the hull site
I had job offers from Fenners and Reckitts plus Smith and Nephew for my first job and declined all three, opting to leave Hull. Do I win?
I would just like to state for the record that I have neither applied for, and thus consequently never been employed by, any of the following firms or any of their related companies and/or subsidiaries. Fenners Ideal Standard Smith & Nephew British Aerospace Thanks
1) I worked at Fenners and used the coal that came up on a Fenaplast conveyor belt. 2) I have shat in a Ideal toilet 3) Plasters for me poorly 4) Errrrrr...I once sat in a fighter jet 3 ain't bad
Biggest employer in this area, staff in this area not just head quarters, is Hull and east Yorkshire hospitals trust with around 8000 staff.
He was two years above me then. I started in Sept/Oct82, after leaving school that summer. I did indeed forget about Billy Bell! Dunno about eating sausage rolls, but I remember getting about 3 or 4 egg sarnies every morning break, for about 10p each! Also, playing on the space invaders machine in the lounge area and gawping at all the girls coming in from the offices. One called Andrea Wright and another called Kim Murphy were especially memorable...
