Micah Richards has joined Aston Villa after turning down a lucrative deal from Sunderland. Sunderland had offered the right back around £90,000-a-week, but he chose Villa - and a deal understood to be around £65,000-a-week - after a personal intervention from Tim Sherwood. The sought-after 26-year-old, had also been pursued by West Ham following his release from Manchester City. The Villa boss is understood to have convinced Richards that he would play a key role in his new-look side and that he would be helped in his bid to break back into the England picture. Richards has been at Italian club Fiorentina on loan but has made just 20 appearances for the Serie A club. He has been keen to come back to the Premier League for some time, despite interest from Inter Milan, managed by his former City boss Roberto Mancini. Not sure how true this is???
I really really doubt we would offer a player with his injury record anything in that region in terms of wages
TBH I don't give a ****, I'm sure the team that Dick and Congo boy put together come August will have us all quietly smiling. I think going to work under Sherwood will destroy this lads, last legs of a career.. If Tim Sherwood didn't have eyes, he'd be a sight more prettier but it's his spiel that does my head in. Like Harry Redknapp 25 years ago..
I am sure there was another player who went to Villa thinking his England Career was going to go from strength to strength? look what happened to him. Indeed **** on the Villa.
What a ridiculous story! Honestly any chance to rubbish Sunderland. As if we offered him £90,000 a week. Not a hope we would have paid him that.
Apparently Carver's coming in to walk the players dogs during training. They offered him 6k a year but he settled for 4k as long as he could shout at the dogs..
The Mirror never miss an opportunity to knock us, so I very much doubt there is any truth in this one..
Agree, I was reading the Mirror online the other day and they were on about skullduggery at Sunderland Uni on the nightshift with the staff. Apparently some manager called Allan was getting pist, lobbing his privates out and singing 'God save the Queen', you hear about that Reg?
I'm not even fussed, Not that I don't rate him, it's his injury blighted career and the lack of football he's played. Surely we've learnt from Rodwell so weren't even in for him as a result.
Maybe they have got the wages mixed up between the clubs! Surprised Villa signing anybody until the ownership issue is sorted.
Or they made it up. I'd go as far to claim that they made up the wage Villa are giving him as well. It's the Mirror. The Journo's all the reputable Journo's laugh at.
