...... has the world gone mad?

Someone who won nothing with Newcastle, only other clubs, was the last manager to relegate the club and who regularly criticises them is having a statue erected in his 'honour' ...... surely this is the worst example of clutching at straws since the wolf blew the first little pig's house down <doh>

The statue, which looks like Nigel Pearson after a horrific fire, is to be erected at the ground.

TBH, I'd be horrified if SKP was awarded a statue at the SOL. Yes he won the Golden Boot, caps, etc but he didn't actually win the club anything, much like Shearer. This smacks of the Michael Jackson thing at Fulham to me.

Still, at least it's a nice reminder, for Shearer, of the time he had some hair ..... shame that style was when he was at Blackburn <whistle>

This was always going to happen. He was a great player for them for a long time. Local lad, comes home, captains the club and his country. Scores a **** load of goals. Becomes a hero to pretty much all of their supporters. Fair play to him and them.

I presume the statue will be of him in his kit though and not in his suit on the sideline.

I'd love a statue of Quinny and Super Kev outside the SoL personally.

FFS I hope Rooney doesn't finish as our top scorer im not having some fat scouser staring at me every time I tip up at OT for the rest of my life!

Although he has won a load of silverware so it would be more acceptable than this!

<laugh>. He has a lush head of hair unlike Al though....... Butt hair but still hair nonetheless!

Shearer embodies our club though. Regardless of what you think about him. Sure we won bugger all (we could have Jesus up front and we would still win **** all) but he is a huge part of the club. It is no different to having Sir Bob outside the ground. We won nothing with him as manager however nobody said a dicky bird about him having a statue.

He may be a knob head and worthy of a piss take on a regular basis, but I'm not afraid to say best number 9 I have ever seen play.

I understand why fella. But the state of the statue though fella? Defo more Pearson than Shearer. It's a ****ing state. I'd be mortified.

I'd refuse to have a statue of me made if i'd won nowt whilst making flipping great wodges of cash in the process. Always thought there shouldnt be one of Bobby outside of SJP either.....won nowt there! At Ipswich, yes! Name something after them? Aye! But a statue? Naaaah! Thats going a bit too far. But if I had to pick anybody who would have a statue without winning owt, it would be Bobby, due to the gent that he was, and not his footballing achievements!

Is that the same Bobby Robson hounded out by ur fans ur club **** on him big time. The fact there's a statue of him outside ur ground is only down to the fact he's a local lad who had a great career at other clubs. Bobby was loved around the world just a shame his own people turned on him.
