Would he be worth signing? It's understandable Sterling is eager to make the step up from mid table to an elite level club like Arsenal, but would he be a good signing from our point of view? He probably wouldn't get in the first team ahead of Alexis and Walcott, but I suppose he could be a decent player to bring off the bench. So anyway, thoughts? Should we sign Sterling?
Depends on Walcott, really. If he signs that contract extension this summer then there is no really need for Sterling because we have Walcott, AOC and Sanchez as our paced wide forwards/ wingers. We should be looking for a top goal keeper first and foremost.
Not really, all the noises from Walcott after the cup final seem to indicate that he's staying at the club. I don't see Sterling as any better than Walcott, just different as he's slightly more of a pacey no10 who plays across the front 3 rather than Walcott whose a winger/RW who is developing in to a forward. With Walcott, Oxo, Sanchez, Gnabry and even Welbeck, we don't need Sterling regardless of how well he'll develop as we have no room for him, and we need competition for Giroud and a DM/physical central midfielder 1st.
Also there's question marks about his attitude, and how he's treated a club who developed him, made him a star and obviously hold him in high regard.
How could it be worth signing a player for £X million who could end up as third choice in his position ? I agree with Sanj we should be looking to sign players in positions that are needed
Everytime Walcott needs to sign a new deal, Wenger finally gives him a couple of matches at striker. Then never does again for a couple of years and the next deal needs signing. Is Walcott thick as pig sh£t to keep falling for this?
Don't need him and never going to be worth the sort of money Liverpool will be demanding. He'll end up on the bench at one of the oil baron clubs
Yeah, Thats the thing. He's not yet a Top Class player but he will cost as much as one. Also with Sanchez, Walcott, Carzorla,Ozil, Oxo etc.. we don't exactly need him. We would be better of spending the money on a CF/DM or GK
Hazard and Sanchez got 14 & 16 goals this season. I could see Sterling matching that as a winger/attacking mid one season in the next few years. Not consistently though.
League goals? Sanchez got 25 (12 assists) in all competitions. Not sure Sterling can get close to those numbers.
I could see him getting 25 in 52 appearances in the next few years. He's being significantly underrated at the moment because of all the press and the terrible Liverpool season.
He's producing more age 20 than Sanchez was age 20 so he could become top drawer. His attitude sucks though. I had enough of tossers when Gallas and Cole were with us.
I still think he is going nowhere, not until he is the finished article i think, and he aint that yet.
