QPR boss Chris Ramsey warns fans about next season - but insists he has ace up his sleeve when buying players 15:00, 5 June 2015 By Paul Warburton Rangers gaffer reckons The Smoke is still at attraction please log in to view this image Caution: Chris Ramsey QPR boss Chris Ramsey has sounded a warning to fans thinking the club will get re-promoted at the first attempt. Rangers did just that the season before last as part of a three-year yo-yo that saw Hoops relegated from the Premier League, promoted, and relegated again. This time, the coach appointed full-time just before the end of a second disastrous campaign, is more than cautious over a another return to the top flight. please log in to view this image On the ball: Massimo Luongo (L) in action “It’s quite easy to come down and think we’re a really big club in that division (Championship). We have to be realistic over our resources, and how deep we can recruit and what players are available to us. “Any budget will determined by who comes and who goes.” VIEW GALLERY Rangers have already made a £3.5 million investment in Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin from Swindon, and linked with numerous others while awaiting any backlash from overspending under Financial Fair Play Rules, but Ramsey believes coming to London, or returning to it, as in the case of target Darren Pratley, is a massive draw. The head coach added: “Uprooting your family can affect your game; your form. Whenever players decide to leave they do take into account their families, but there is a big attraction in London.”
Rule number one, Chris .................... stop talking to the media and putting up ready made excuses. Rule two - knuckle down and build a team, we don't want to hear about what if's ........... all we want is for you to get the team working for you. An extra season in the Championship may prove better overall to grow the team. Everything else will fall into place there after. Good luck!
People will call for Ramsey's head if we build a team with some potential that finishes mid-table. It's the modern QPR fan's way.
This Did you ever hear Fergie say c@@p like that? Shut your mouth Chris and if you want to talk cards keep them close to your chest.
Personally, I agree with CR. We should have no expectation of promotion at all. Build a team that can do the business and go for promotion in a couple of years.
I think we should just see how we get on. Fans will want to win and want success. Agree he needs to stop with the excuses, this will feed into the players who think it's acceptable to be average and have an average season. For me there is zero chance he will survive the season with that attitude.
It's all about managing expectations as in all walks of life. We've all witnessed the dog's breakfast which were our last two seasons in the PL. For me Ramsey can say what he likes but he will ultimately be judged by what happens on the green stuff, that's where the talking should be done. We either go up or we don't, let's just hope it's more enjoyable than what we witnessed from last August onwards.
If we finish mid-table playing decent passing football and scoring goals I'll be more than happy considering the shyte we've put up with over the past few years...
Chris may survive and in truth, I hope he does. This will mean that we have achieve level one ............ the ground up building of the team. In doing so, Chris needs to maintain minimum contact with the media ............. the less said, the better. Results will speak for themselves.
That has got to be the target for the owners, management, players and for me the supporters. Maybe not easy, but it is doable.
I think we will be one of the biggest spenders in league and have the biggest wage bill. I agree we need to rebuild but still need a top half finish with the resources available to Ramsey
It's a bit pointless though if we aren't ready. Would rather take the time to build a proper team and club even if it had to take a few years of hurt.
Exactly - we need to consider that we've hit rock bottom and then judge our success by progress rather than promotion. Ramsey is saying the right things still. To use my current favourite method of illustration - extremes, we wouldn't start a season in the Premiership saying that we need to try and win tge league and anything else is just building a defeatist mindset. It needs to be tampered with realism. To apply this to the Championship (admittedly a less hierarchical division) you still wouldn't find the newly promoted teams (MK Dons, Preson and whoever else it was) demanding instant success. For us, we won't be buying the best in the league but rather the best potential we can get (noting that everyone else is trying to do the same). We're not going to offer the kind of wages that bring in players that would automatically move us into the best in the league and we have just moved on a lot of players so the rebuilding job is there to see. If Ramsey thought any game wasn't there to be won then I'd want him sacked immediately but the balance of probabilities means that we won't win them all but we will find our level and hope that it's slightly above a moderate estimate. Again, Ramsey has called it right but he shouldn't be saying anything that is surprising to us.
I know an England international who is available and would jump at those wages. I won't spoil the surprise but today's special is 3 names for the price of 2....
I wish he'd just keep his trap shut to the media. A great message to other teams eh "we are QPR and don't expect to be promoted".
I don't believe other teams should think our expectations are anything less than success. I also think, if it is a true quote, it smacks of negativity.
