Goalkeeper: Costel Pantilimon – Sunderland’s Costel Pantilimon had a decent campaign at the Stadium of Light, establishing himself as a regular with 28 Premier League starts.

Right-back: Daryl Janmaat – The Dutch full-back was one of Newcastle United’s most-used players this season, starting 37 matches and contributing at both ends of the pitch due to his marauding runs.

Centre-back: Fabricio Coloccini – There has been plenty of talk that Coloccini wants a return to his native Argentina, but that hasn’t detracted him from the job in hand.

The 33-year-old was an important figure for Newcastle, both in his ability to defend well and help keep team morale up through the Magpies’ worst run of form in Premier League history.

Centre-back: Santiago Vergini – Another Argentine centre-back, another impressive campaign. The 26-year-old has been by far the Black Cats’ best performing central defender over the past nine months.

Left-back: Patrick van Aanholt – The Sunderland left-back was arguably his side’s best attacking threat, providing a club-high five assists for the season. Defensively, he was also impressive.

Defensive midfield: Lee Cattermole – Despite racking up a rather alarming 14 yellow cards, Cattermole was once again a rock in front of the Sunderland back four and did his job well.

In 26 league starts, he averaged 2.7 tackles, 2.4 interceptions and 2.4 clearances per encounter.

Central midfield: Moussa Sissoko – Newcastle’s best player, and the only one who could break into a top six team, according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.

A real box-to-box star, the Frenchman scored four goals and assisted a further two.

Central midfield: Jack Colback – Formerly of Sunderland, Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback performed well during his debut campaign at St James’ Park – scoring four goals and assisting a further six.

Left midfield: Seb Larsson – The former Birmingham star must be sick of relegation battles, and he once again proved why he’s too good a player to be consistently involved in them.

The Swedish international started 36 games, scoring three goals and assisting another three. Larsson is hard-working, willing to contribute with defensive duties and more importantly a consistent player.

Right midfield: Remy Cabella – Cabella did not have his finest campaign, but that’s because he has such ability which was often seen in flashes by the Geordie support.

His ball control, ability to work the small spaces and retain possession – 82.6% pass success rate – made him a valuable player and one who many believe will perform even better next term.

Striker: Papiss Demba Cisse – The Senegalese striker only started 11 Premier League games, but his remarkable 11 goals make him the top scorer in the North East.

Substitutes: Tim Krul, Billy Jones, Paul Dummett, Jack Rodwell, Jordi Gomez, Ayoze Perez, Connor Wickham

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally not sure how Vergini/Sissoko/Cabella are in the first team...had dreadful seasons
And then Dummet/Rodwell/Wickham as well who have either missed half the season or been equally as ****

    Cabella - joke
Seb on left midfield when he has been our player of the season in centre midfield - joke
Says something about the strikers in the North East when Cisse is the pick of the bunch - substitute or suspended

****ing hell we're ****e. Where do you even start?

Keepers - actually decent, Pants is the best but Krul and Mannone are good understudies

Defence - Janmaat is ace but Colo and Vergini as centre back pairing is an horrific thought. Says something that Van is in (who does look good) despite being out injured for a chunk.

Midfield - Sissoko and Seb yes. Colback and Catts ok they've been solid but unspectacular. The only reason why Cabs is there is because up front we're short so they went for a 5th and struggled to think of one...

Striker - Cisse. Blows hot and cold but got the goals.

From our combined 'best players' there's half a good premiership team.

Wouldn't like to see that sorry bunch compared to the South East team of the year. Hopefully next year will be better.

I'd rather be a northerner and support a **** team than be a southerner however.
