Hull City fans 'pay £2,750' to follow club home and away, claims survey

    HULL City
were the seventh most expensive club to follow home and away in last season's Premier League, according to a new survey.

Research by online recommerce site musicMagpie estimated the total cost of home and away games for each Premier League club and the travel costs, to determine which teams cost their fans the most.

The Tigers were ranked seventh in the list, with the total cost to fans to watch the team play coming in at £2,750.

The survey calculated the sum based on £501 for the cheapest home season ticket, the cost of buying tickets for all away games being £607, plus £1,642 for the total cost of away travel to get to matches.

The most expensive team to support was Newcastle United (£3,149), followed by Arsenal (£3,117) and Southampton (£3,008).

Given their geographical location it was perhaps unsurprising to see Newcastle and Southampton ranked among the highest, with their fans needing to put the miles in to follow their respective sides on the road.

In contrast, Midlands-based clubs West Bromwich Albion (£1,901), Stoke City (£2,006) and Aston Villa (£2,033) are the cheapest.

League winners Chelsea actually finish mid-table in the money stakes with ticket and travel costs amounting to £2,686, over £450 cheaper than Newcastle, who finished 16 places below them in the table.

It still should work out cheaper next year as most of the away games are a lot closer

With a 6% increase on the cost of home games and an extra 4 away games, it's unlikely to fall at all.

Seeing as the largest cost is the price of away tickets and travel costs then the cost of tickets for home games isn't a factor. Newcastle is the most expensive because they have the furthest to travel.
Our fans desire to whinge about things that are irrelevant never fails to amaze.

Other clubs robbing us blind, the bastards. <laugh>

To be fair, it's a meaningless bit of information, because there's so many variables in it.

Only if you go to them all. Which very few do.

Indeed, but this thread is about how much it costs to go to every game.

As Dutch says, there's a lot of variables, so it's hardly very scientific, but assuming the same parameters were used to calculate all costs, it should be a reasonable reflection of the differences from club to club.

Ours will obviously also be affected by the season pass price, as our cheapest adult season pass will be the most expensive in the league next season.

Well it's a PR story from Music Magpie aiming to make people think about how they can save money and being linked to them. It's not meant to be an exhaustive study, it's just the HDM has swallowed it.

I'm sure others will follow, if they haven't already. <ok>

It's pretty much meaningless pap. You can lose the £100 difference in pass prices ina couple of games depending where you live and how you travel.

Erm...Sheffield United aren't in the Championship.

And even if they were, their season ticket prices go from to £380 to £490.

I heard someone was charging £700, either way shouldn't it be calculated on an average price rather than the cheapest

So they charge nearly £500 for league 1 and we're about £70 more for Championship

But it wouldn't. Our season ticket price was £501. If Newcastle's was £301 their costs would be higher than ours and if Stoke and West Brom's £701 they would be lower purely because of travel.
How else are clubs with far higher season passes than ours cheaper than us.

I believe the most expensive season ticket in the league is Fulham, who have a season ticket that costs £799(though it only applies to three blocks on the half way line), but their adult passes start at £259 and their average is still considerably lower than ours(and they're in an affluent part of London).

Newcastle's travel costs would obviously put them top of the list, however cheap their season ticket prices were, I have no idea what point you're trying to make.
