They will need two managers next year again. One to sack before the Derby and one to collect 3 points.

The more I hear about this the more I think it would be absolutely class if he got the job. I just know that the squad would play for him. He was an absolutely amazing player, is very intelligent and unlike his arch enemy Roy Keane seems to get on well with others. Let's hope everyone keeps shouting about it and those twits finally listen.

I don't think McLaren would be a disaster, but Viera would be so much better. Not so much for what he's achive - it's a huge gamble - but more for what it would say about the club changing it's way of doing things.

I don't think any journos have an inside track. They are all as clueless as we are. Reading that telegraph one that Smug posted though, the one thing that comes out more and more - I wish fat Freddy would just **** off and shut up.

Since when we do we quote fan numbers to two decimal places? Or is this to take account of the fact that with the current situation we have a number of fans who are only 60.48% committed in their support.

You know what? I don`t care if we go down in flames, I want something to happen that will get my juices flowing. these past few years have been been absolute dross. to the point where I have jacked my Season Ticket;.That should never happen, but my club made me do it, and for that I hate Ashley.. So, take a punt, f off McClaren, lets have a laugh with Viera. A far better footballer than Gullit ever was, and it wudnt take much to be a better manager,. He seems to like us, and i have always respected him. FFS, after Carver whats the worse that can happen? Relegation? I don`t care about that anymore after this seasonj!! Bring on NAPOLEON as our boss and lets see what happens. It will be a rollercoaster whatever happens!

Carr needs to **** right off. McClaren is his mate. This demi-god scout responsible for signing a load of **** interspersed with the odd good signing. The guy is a ****ing clown.

we'd be better off with Carr junior picking players right now.
at least they would be sexy.

Christ, what a way to inspire people....It's like having Mike Bassett in charge.
I shudder to think what goes through the minds of the people making these ridiculous decisions. First Pardew and now McClaren????

Chronicle claim McLaren isn't even lined up for interview. Talks with Carver today. We might know more tonight but I am not braced for positive news.

McClaren is a done deal. It's to be announced on Friday. They are talking to Carver first to clarify his future as they want him to stay as number 2.

If it is Carver then that is it for me. Im done, i wont even come on here any more tbh, i will try and avoid anything NUFC related, the onlu nufc stuff i will see will be on the skysports website and the BBC website. I will probably start going out at the weekends as opposed to watching games

    http://www.nufc.com/

Nufc.com rarely publish articles without truth or merit and the 1st story (published this morning) states that it is McLaren, they must definatley know for them to publish this.

Sorry to keep banging on but

McLaren might not be that bad a choice, he steared Derby into a firm position of getting promoted, then we came along and rocked the boat, a couple of results went wrong then all of a sudden you 4 or 5 games with out a win and the confidence is knocked, players dont know whether his staying or going and it can happen to any club/manager.

I'd give McLaren a chance as long as we make some decent signings

Probably for most the issue is not McClaren himself, though it isn't a greatly exciting appointment. Small step up from Pardew maybe (though McClaren has a CV with plenty to worry about), hopefully with more attacking football. The problem is more that this is the appointment which fails to show a clear break from previous decision making.

Vieira would have been a bigger risk, but with the possibility of a greater reward. His appointment would also have indicated a sizeable change in decision making from the board - what we are all crying out for.

This is traditional Ashley modus operandi. Step 1. Dangle Vieira in front of us, which we half-believe might be a possibility, and get excited about. Step 2. Quash that little rumour with pretty solid news that McClaren is to come in. We get angry for a week, and gradually get used to the idea of a competent but average manager in charge, not exciting but probably not a disaster. Step 3. Appoint Carver 2 weeks before the season starts, and possibly pull down the new Shearer statue in the same week.
