In fairness, nearly all the bribes in Asia, Russia and Africa aren't really corruption to win business, they're more a flat tax that everyone has to pay to be involved in the process, get approvals, licenses, etc.

Not trying to justify it, there's just a different culture and cash-centric bureaucracy to how business is done that is a bit of a culture shock to westerners.

Once all those are paid by everyone wanting to be involved, then the real bribery / proper corruption to win business starts.

You couldn't make this up. barclays are now "investigating FIFA dealings with the bank.
    BARCLAYS, caught commiting fraud repeatedly.

HSBC the drug runner bank of choice is involved in the US case.

Cameron has gobbed off about FIFA, but kept his mouth shut when his beloved HSBC (his family and HSBC have very close ties, too close) was caught taking money from drug cartels and laundering it. He was also silent on Barclays massive fraud.

Anyone who thinks Cameron is any different from Blatter needs their head checked

Yeah because banks failing to check closely enough where the funds they were transferring eminated from is on a par with handing over $150 in bribes <doh>

Cameron is a cock, but he's not a mafia head which is in essence what Blatter is, as he's the head of a racketeering outift.

Football Association board member Heather Rabbatts has withdrawn from Fifa's task force against racism and discrimination with immediate effect.

"Like many in the game, I find it unacceptable that so little has been done to reform Fifa," said Rabbatts.

"It is clear from the re-election of president Blatter that the challenges facing Fifa and the ongoing damage to the reputation of football's world governing body are bound to continue to overshadow and undermine the credibility of any work in the anti-racism arena and beyond.

"My commitment to challenging discrimination across the game remains undiminished and I will continue to work with the FA and other international partners on this fundamental issue in our game."

You can imagine that a few of his "friends" wouldn't try to hard to stop him. He must know an awful lot of stuff they would like to keep private.

    England’s moral lead
Taking a lead against Blatter last week: David Cameron – four years after he dismissed a BBC Panorama exposé of Fifa’s practices as “frustrating” and welcomed “Mr President” to Downing Street. “Mr President, you have done a huge amount for football during your whole life. The decisions you have made have been instrumental in taking the game to new heights.” Cameron also held a 30-minute private talk with Jack Warner, who told the press afterwards: “Mr Cameron is a knowledgeable man. He knows about football, but not only that, he knows about the bidding process as well. I certainly trust his knowledge of football.”

Backing Cameron’s view that Panorama was “frustrating” in 2010: the England bid leader Andy Anson, who called the BBC “unpatriotic”; the bid team, who said it was “an embarrassment to the BBC, raking over historical allegations which have no relevance”; the international bid chairman David Dein: “It should have been broadcast on the History Channel”; and the Sun, which published an Ian Wright column headlined “BRAINLESS, BETRAYING, CRETINOUS”, and ran an open letter: “Today the Sun makes this plea to Mr Blatter and Fifa: don’t be put off by the BBC rehashing ancient history. Despite BBC muckraking, the Sun trusts Fifa to put football first.”

Thought you'd like that from the "Said & Done" feature in the Guardian.

Fifa: Head of German FA opposes World Cup 2018 boycott

The German Football Association would not support a boycott of the 2018 World Cup in opposition to the way Fifa is running the game.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has said England would support any such action led by Uefa following Fifa head Sepp Blatter's re-election.

But German FA chief Wolfgang Niersbach, speaking ahead of a meeting of Uefa officials this week, said: "We don't want to go down the route of a boycott.
    "That won't accomplish anything."

Niersbach added: "We don't want to get into a situation like with boxing where there are several parallel associations. That doesn't work."

Blatter, 79, was last week re-elected for a fifth term as the president of football's world governing body despite seven Fifa officials being arrested by the US Justice Department over allegations of corruption. Blatter himself has not been implicated.

Niersbach's comments come on the day that Blatter's top deputy Jerome Valcke denied allegations that he is the person responsible for a $10m (£6m) transfer of funds cited in the US indictment.

Swiss prosecutors have launched a separate investigation into the bidding process for the tournaments in 2018 and 2022, which will be held in Russia and Qatar respectively.
